He was pretty much up front with that, to the point of saying that he had taken something during the round to ease the pain. He didn't elaborate on the details but I know I heard him say he was hurt and the it wasn't getting better. That didn't sound like lying to me.
I think that's the underlying point. Going into this event, I wasn't aware of all the other issues at play. I watched him swing Thursday, and he would grimmace after the shot had basically gotten to its destination. He did it occasionally, not all the time. I noticed that he had no issues bending down to read putts.

Then Friday, the grimmaces became more and more evident. The tee shots also became more and more evident. And after one shot in particular, it almost appeared that he was ready to pack it in. Then I'm thinking, maybe it's not a fake job.

Then on Saturday, there were no questions in my mind that he was in serious pain. Honestly, I don't know how he blocked it all out, outside of the fact that he's Tiger Woods.

Initially, I thought there was a little overreacting going on. But I thought it had more to do with a psychological ploy, lulling the field to sleep. It didn't take me long to realize that he was in pretty bad shape to be swinging a golf club.

I can understand not disclosing this information before hand. That's not worthy of debate. But I don't think it's really an issue to question these things before they got worse, before the real facts of the situation came to be, despite good intentions to not disclose them prior, for obvious reasons.

What I'm amazed at more than anything is that instead of marveling this guy's incredible win and talking about how great of a tournament it was, we're caught up in this bitter argument that in the end doesn't make any of us less of a human being. But I do think it shows just how much we desire to argue over the most petty of topics.
