I believe (with Hogan) that starting with lower body (the function of the pump move) is indeed "the most important thing" in the golf swing. In fact if we fail to start with lower body--we WILL start with shoulders, and that is OTT, bringing the club to the ball from the outside, imparting slice spin EVERY shot. Hitting fat nearly every shot.

Another great drill or even pre-swing routine is the "OTT Chop" exercise that Corey Pavin did when he won the US Open and still practices. Here Golf Digest repeats essentially what Hogan said 40+ years ago.

We who have "challenged" ability to separate hips from shoulders should do this while we play, before we play, and periodically as we work in our office!
