So you don't know what his motive is, but you doubt it anyway.

If it was a matter of national pride, he would play in the U.S. Open. He didn't. So I find it hard to believe he wants to "represent his country".
So he doesn't want to represent his country? Why else would you want to play in the Ryder Cup? For the money?

I must confess that I don't know what he did 10 years ago, but I'd be surprised if that was his main motivation.

Why? I might agree you had a point if he'd been exempt into the US Open and then pulled out because he didn't fancy playing it. But it wasn't like that. It's the qualifying tournament that he avoided playing in. Not really the same thing.

I also find it interesting that you were readily claiming on the Tiger was faking thread that people were accusing Tiger of lying when they had absolutely no grounds to do so. Yet, here you stand (or sit) accusing Perry of lying, when you have absolutely no grounds to do so, except perhaps for some idea that you have that the things he's told you don't quite hang together. Which, incidentally, could easily be said of Tiger saying "I'll be fine" and then grimacing after several shots.
