I read it, but you won't be surprised I have a different take. He obviously would have known when he committed that the event would conflict with qualifying, unless he really never gave the first thought whatsoever to playing in the Open Championship this year, which is my guess.
As for everything else, this is only my opinion. I don't know any more than anyone else, so feel free to disregard my opinion if you want. I'm just offering it
