Re: Taylormade r7

.

You know, it's funny...

The very first new driver I ever bought was a TaylorMade Burner (circa mid 80's) and as I look back, I hit some of my best drives and had great consistency and distance. From the late eighties to just last year, (with a six-year layoff in between), I have built a variety of aftermarket drivers with heads ranging from 200cc's all the way up to 440cc's and I've had varying success with all.

Last winter, I bought my first new driver in twenty years and it was a Nike SQ Tour. I thoght I'd like it more but I couldn't get used to it nor did it suit my eye and I'm likely going to sell it.
Then, on a trip to Austin, I met a guy on a course I played there who had a 425 TP. I hit some drives with it and I loved it! So I went to Golfsmith in Austin (the 'World Headquarters) and I hit some regular 425's in their simulators and I was still impressed. When I got home last week, I surfed the web for 425 TP's and found a used one in mint condition for only $284.00.

It's in my bag right now and after having spent this last weekend playing 54 holes of golf, I am completely satisfied with this club. It hits like a dream and the 425cc head doesn't look like a toaster either. I think the stock Re*Ax/RomBax shaft is pretty good, but the experimenter in me still wants to see how this club hits with a UST V2, (which should be arriving this week).
I'm changing the two forward 2-gram weights to a 6-gram inside and a 4-gram outside to both increase the swingweight (it's a stock D-2) and to add a touch of draw bias.

I instantly loved this club the moment I tried the one that guy had and when I got this one from GlobalGolf (and yes, it really is in mint condition), I knew that I had finally found my driver which was the last "puzzle piece" in creating my perfect bag.

So I've gone full cycle. I started with TaylorMade and now I'm back to TaylorMade.

(And it only took twenty years to get here!)

I highly recommend this club!
