The likes of Hawaii or Boise St. have the option of scheduling teams that would behoove their teams ability in their non conference schedules. Perhaps Hawaii should go independent like a Notre Dame to earn respect and try to set up games with USC, Alabama, LSU, Ohio St. Oklahoma, Texas or many other teams that could help their status. When you have no real comparative history and you play only one ranked team that wasn't respected highly either, it doesn't help the case much.

I'm guessing that Boise St & Hawaii would like that very much, but there is nothing in it for the big boys to schedule a N/C game with either. Nothing to gain, everything to lose. If they're going to schedule a "loseable" N/C game they're better off scheduling a major conference opponent.
