Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...
Last Saturday I played and the 9th hole is a short, slight dogleg left par 4. Safe shot is about 200-220 into the turn, then about 70 yards to the green. If it wasn't for some trees down the left side, and having to carry over a lake, going for the green would be an easy 240-250 yards. I have pulled off a lucky draw before and reached it, but can't count on it. So using a 5.5 wood, I intended to put it down just inside and to the far end of the turn. I ended up pushing the ball, heading towards a set of tees for the adjacent hole. When I got to my ball, I was sitting down in a swale, about 100 yards out. I couldn't hit it high because of some overhanging limbs, but had to get it about 20 feet off the ground to clear some small pines and a mound about 30 yards away. I had about a 10 foot space between 2 oak trees to hit through. So I took a 7i, choked down and played it back, and punched it right at the flag. It cleared the trees and mound, landed on the edge of the green, rolled about 25 feet to stop 5 feet past the hole! Great thing is, I could honestly say,"I meant to do that!", at least as far as getting it near the hole. Five feet was a bit closer than I had envisioned! I told my buddy exactly what I was trying to do before I hit it. He couldn't believe it!
