A little gem when in the vincinity of Port Elizabeth and going for a Safari at Addo Elephant park - especially when staying at the the Riverbend Lodge there is a little gem not to far away in Kirkland - the Kirkland GC - a 9 Hole layout with two sets of tees for each hole to make it a nice 18. Beware no carts or trolleys ! And it is long - almost all par 4 are 400m +.
It is like any litle back yard course in Great Britain - a pub from which it is run - and where you check in before teeing off.

Extremely friendly people. We were staying at the above lodge and where looking to go to Sham Wari reserve a day later and had planned on going for 1 night to PE when it was suggested zo drive to Kirkwood - about 30 - 40 min by car as we could play there - they arranged one night at the Kronenhoff Guesthouse and sent us away - no one at the hotel - after calling and waiting finally somebody came to open up and let us in. Well inside very neat - with house port in the room Dropped our gear and went to the golf course about 3 min by car away. Were sent on our way for 9 holes - as we came back to the club house = pub - the had some price giving - evidently there was a tournament that day - we were waved in and given some drinks - and eneded up having a very nice early evening round of sun setters.

next morning we were welcomed back and given the local treatment = greenfee - IIRC about ZAR 20 for 9 holes

Cheers

Thomas
