Coralpro's mother's condition

I want to thank those that have showed concern and given well wishes and to update all the members.
My sister informed me the nurse has said she may pass within a few days to a couple of weeks. She said she is in the latter stages of Alzheimers and her system is starting shut downs. She said that this would have happened even if she hadn't had the injury of alling over the tractor. Her bowels have started shutting down and her body is telling her she doesn't need food or water so even when they try to feed her or give her water her muscles don't want to swallow and she stands a chance of choking or the fluids going into her lungs.
We have accepted as a family that this is probably the best thing for her and will save her much pain and discomfort had she been able to get over the fall. Our dad as well as all the kids(there are four of us) have decided against installing feeding tubes and/or elctrical assistance. My younger brother is a devout Christian, which I'm not, but he says he believes the accident happened to help expedite her leaving as to minimize her suffering. I know many here have lost loved ones and when given the chance we wish not for them to suffer any more than necessary.
I'll be leaving in the morning to be there with mom and to support our father.

I truly hate to hear that Darrell, I know you aren't religious, but I'll remember you and your family in prayer through this difficult time.

Whatever happens, may you know we are thinking about you. This a difficult time as I went through this with my grandmother. It is not easy but my family realized it was time and the best thing that could happen.

I lost my mom to cancer 1 1/2 years ago. It was tough watching her wither away in agony. I know your pain.

Re: Coralpro's mother's condition

I'm sorry to hear about your mother's failing health. I know there's not much one can say to make anything better at this point, but hopefully knowing that we all care will help some. Be there for the family and we look forward to your return in the future. Take Care.

Re: Coralpro's mother's condition

The latest is she is showing some improvement although she hasn't gotten up and moved any. She is taking some fluids now and eating a small amount. She is still weak and in less pain now that they are giving some pain killers. Time will still tell if she can recover but it looks better than it was a couple days ago. Thanks again for everyones well wishes and prayers.

Re: Coralpro's mother's condition

Latest update on Mom's condition is pretty much holding about the same. She has been able to get up now and walk around but still not eating well or drinking much. They tried switching her to pain patches instead of pills she was having trouble swallowing but she started sleeping all day and they're afraid with her sleeping that much and not moving around she will be susceptible to pneumonia. Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes.
