Re: New Header Pic

I hope you don't mind Deron, I took your really sweet logo and used it to help practice my fading of pictures. (Also J-Man, I used the brighter St. Andrew's pic to match Georgia). I should've made the logo bigger in the middle so "coming undone? get rewound" showed up larger. Again, just having some fun and sharing. (I resized the picture as it was too large, and just shrunk it on a whole, which was bad news for the logo.)

OK, here with a little bigger saying, done with paint so the proportions aren't perfect.

The blue sky over St Andrews just doesn't fit my eye. Oh, and where's the brighness/contrast button on this last batch?

Re: New Header Pic

Oh yeah, no problem at all.

I like the idea with the layer mask on the images and everything. Looks good. I'll see if what I can come up with tonight for a whole header instead of just a logo.

Everyone combining images has got me wanting to brush the dust off Photoshop again.

I really like your idea with the gauzey look. My suggestion would be to "fade" or "blend" the two pics together using a blur right at the point where the two pics meet but not much further. Ie. to make them look like one pic fades into the other with no discernable border. Not a white blur...but blurring using the edges of whatever's on the respective pics. Whatdya think? Easy for me to criticize and suggest with no Photoshop Skills to call my own.

I wanted to do that, but then the logo doesn't show up very well. Well the logo portion does, but the bottom part doesn't. I guess I could try to put some sort of white border around it, or make the saying bigger like I did in the one. But I like the logo Deron made as it looks, I don't want to mess with it.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to differentiate yourself with a new, original name, IMO. Does the web really need three similarly named GR* golf forums? That's somewhat confusing, isn't it?

Not to us and not to the search engines. Maybe you should take that up with your boss.

Have you tried this:
1) Blend the pics as Johneli suggests
2) Right click on the layer with the logo in the Layers palette.
3) Select "Blending Options"
4) Click on "Outer Glow", and play with the settings, different color glows, spread and size, etc. You might find a combo that pleases your eye, and it won't simulate a glare like the large white area.

You'll probably first have to do some work on the logo to remove the white background - the "magic wand" is your friend!

Or ask the creator of the logo for a transparent background instead of white.

Oh well..... Allright, here's the new banner then, with the name you want and everything:

If I may say so myself, this is a masterpiece of 'branding' and 'differentiation'. I know the guys & gals here love to talk, and this beautiful banner reflects that wonderfully.

What do I win?

Its not only the name we want, it's the name we have and will keep. Thanks for the support. Sure, we like to talk and based on traffic at "the relic*" we understand and appreciate your sudden increased interest in our little community.

What do you win? It's a toss up between first prize.....a two week all expenses paid trip back to that relic you visit us from and second prize......a permanent all expenses paid trip to the relic you visit us from. Lucky for you nobody around here wanted those fantastic prizes so you're more than welcome to take them both.

*relic........Unfortunately I can't take credit for coining that oh so appropriate moniker. That would be an old friend of the relic.....Keith.

I did use the magic wand to remove the white background, but like I said before it made it hard to see the wording underneath and the golf ball on top. I didn't have anytime to work on it beyond yesterday when I posted it, so I didn't try resizing any of the text.

And none of the last three are a problem, the first step is. The tutorial helped until I got to a certain point. At that point (where I don't have the button to make a layer mask) I can't move on. I've searched for how to make one, but help doesn't get me anywhere. Maybe my Photoshop is older, I don't know.
