Hua Hin Thailand

Hua Hin in Thailand is one of my favourite golfing spots.

Hua Hin is about 250 km south of Bangkok and sits directly on the coast. It is the summer residence of the king and hence also Thailand’s first golf course was built here in 1920.

There are various choices of accommodation to choose from – ranging from simple B&B style stays through various chain hotels up to the high end Aman style Spa retreats.
In the centre of town on the old piers there are a couple of very fresh seafood places.

Courses:

The Royal Hua Hin Golf Course is in the centre of the town right behind the railway station.

The course is the oldest in Thailand and is set on some hills playing against a backdrop of a couple of Wats – temples. Has a couple of nice oar 3 in sequence on the front nine.

Mens: 6678 yds Slope 130 CR 72,6

Ladies: 5713 yds Slope 126 CR 73,6

Course is fine – often a bit on the dry side

Palm Hills Golf & Country Club is on the main road from Bangkok – about 15 KM north of Hua Hin – direction of Cha Am.

Is being built into a private club style environment – lot of construction of large villas going on along the fairways. Plenty of water coming into play. The par 3 11 is a nice upgill playing gem over water.

Mens tips 6887 yds Slope 123 CR 72,1
Mens reg 6034 yds Slope 112 CR 68,4

Ladies 5349 yds Slope 112 CR 70,2

Greens tend to be very fast to say the least.

Majestic Creek Country Club is land inwards from Hua Hin – about 30 min + drive from Hua Hin.

It is a rolling hill style course going in 2 large circles – again lot of water. The par 4 10th has a carry over water of at least 150 yds to get you started for the back nine.

Mens tips 6957 yds
Mens reg 6346 yds

Ladies 5550 yds

The Imperial Lake View Golf Club is about 30 min to the north of Hua Hin – again land inwards.

It has a total of 27 holes – and looking to open up another 9. Make sure to play A – Mountain and B – Lake as these are the original 18 – and with some very nice holes. The par3 14th with an island green and the tee boxes on islands in the same lake to left for gents and right for ladies – about a 140 yds carry for the gents. A lot of water overall – with a plenty of elevation.

Mens Tips 6915 yds
Mens reg 6195 yds

Ladies 5396 yds

IMHO the most enjoyable but also challenging course in Hua Hin.

To be added Springfield.

At all courses you will find drink stations – water, soft and beer and snacks every couple of holes.

At all courses it is mandatory to have a caddy – mostly women with varying English and also caddying skills – some very good some OK. Remember to tip – normally about 200 THB for 18 holes.

IF you need recommendations for local organizing – I do not know if it is OK to post name here – but feel free to PM me. The outfit takes care of everything – picks you up by minibus at the hotel and gets you back – always on time – three stays with close to 25 rounds of golf.

Cheers

Thomas
