He may have been taking into account that graphite shafts tend to be a half inch longer, which helps boost swing speed, and they are lighter which also helps boost swing speed. There is not a huge difference in the 5.5 and the 6.0 flex profile wise, the 6.0 set will be heavier though, so that is one thing to consider.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I feel I am losing a bit of distance with the graphite shafts and wanted to see if I could get a more penetrating ball flights with the project x's.

I was looking at standard Project X and the High Launch version. What is the difference between the two at the same flex?

The High Launch has a lower kick point and a longer parallel tip section, this creates a higher launching, higher spinning shot. The regular Project X shaft has a longer taper that helps launch high, but flattens the ball flight out. The High Launch is not available in a 5.5 flex.
The Flighted Project X has a lower kick point in the longer irons to help launch them higher, and it moves higher as you go down the set so that the shorter irons will launch a little flatter which makes it a bit easier to control spin and trajectory. They are all great shafts, but based on what you were looking to get a more penetrating flight, the Flighted would be a good choice since they will give you the higher launch that most people need with the longer irons, but a penetrating flight with the shorter irons.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for all the information. I will demo the flighted model also. My current shafts are 1 1/2" longer. If I pulled the current shafts could I buy off the rack X's and have them fit to the same length? If I buy a used club could I have them lengthened 1 1/2" or are they fit to size?

You could, the shafts are iron specific, meaning that each shaft is designed/weighted to be put in a specific iron, they can be left uncut and I think it would be +1.5 to 2 inches, so you wouldn't have to trim much to get the desired length. Just so you know, they will feel heavy at that length unless you go to a club builder that can add some weight in the butt end to balance the swing weight.

Just to clarify, 1 1/2" longer would equal to 9 grams extra to add on the butt to balance the swing weight?

Depends on what swing weight you are looking to play, with the set up that you have, unless they were counter balanced, the swing weight should be pretty high already. Anywhere that has a decent club repair area will have a scale to measure and if you want to match it, they should be able to figure it out for you.
