Re-gripping

What do I need to re-grip clubs (besides the grips) and how do I re-grip them? Is it okay to do it myself or should I take it in and have someone do it for me?

it is very easy....grip tape, and grip solvent, and knfe, or razor blade to cut the old grip off....

just cut the grip off, and you can either leave the old tape on, or take it off....put the girp tape on the shaft, and make sure you leave about a half ench hanging off the butt of the club...Twist that half inch, and then poke it down in the shaft....then pour some grip solvent in the grip, while plugging the little hole at the butt of the grip...shake the solvent around in the grip....then pour the solvent on the tape, you might have to add some more solvent on the tape, and then slide the girp on

very easy!

Re: Re-gripping

How much to buy? No it won't get in the shaft because you twisted the tape and stuffed it down the open end of the shaft, and you just pour some in the grip, and slosh it around and pour it out ON the tape.....Not in the shaft......Just buy the stuff, and call me if you want and I can walk you through it when you are doing it...It's honestly really easy!

Re: Re-gripping

For graphite, you can partially cut through the grip and rip it off. Or you can use a hook blade.

Progolf, which grips are you going to put on?

I had never done a regripping til last year and it really is that easy. Takes a little time but it is easy. The solvent isn't really going to matter if it gets down in the shaft a little or not because it evaporates fairly quick. When your done you can always stant them up with club head up for a 15 minutes. The hardest part is removing the old tape.

Re: Re-gripping

Google can be your friend, but here's a link with pictures that describes what Nikrep is telling you: http://www.golfworks.com/article.asp_Q_ai_E_175. You'll also need something to catch the excess solvent in. And for removing the old grips a vise and a rubber vice club holder thing is nice as well...not manditory, but will help.

In addition since your reading this thread, did you get the MP-14's? On your MP-14 thread people are still responding and someone's looking to trade you some clubs so you may (would be courtious) want to close that thread out with a final post.

A paint tray is perfect.

bes sure to put a tee in the butt end of the grip before you pour solvent in it.

Re: Re-gripping

It's very easy. There's really no way you can mess it up unless your installing Winn grips (or any grip with a collar).

If you installing Winn grips and this is your first time, I would have a pro do it for you. Otherwise, it's possible you're going to ruin grips....and your hands.

If you're really nervous, buy an el cheapo grip and re-grip a club you don't use. If you mess up, who cares - it's not a club you use anyway. I did this when it came time for my first ever graphite shaft cut and head pull. But, if you consider yourself even vaguely handy, then you'll do fine with re-gripping. Watch the vids and take your time. Good luck!

Re: Re-gripping

It's easier than most places will let on, I've regripped more clubs than I can count and it gets easier with practice. I've even changed some grips in parking lots after a round for people. Just remember, always cut away from yourself.

Re: Re-gripping

Yep, it's pretty easy. Two piece grips like the Winn can be tough as the wrap can separate from the lining. I've done a few sets with those and would rather not mess with them any more. I usually use Lamkin Permawraps, but I'm thinking of trying their dual density torsion grips next time.

These grips won't shred your hands. I've been using them for well over a year now and they are work great. I have both the regular and Tour versions in mid-size and I've had zero problems - and no wear on the hands, either. If I didn't already have new GP Tour Velvets on my irons, I'd be putting the torsions on.

The last sentence of advice is probably the most important.

That can be the hardest part, it's even better when you finally get it and then fold the tape in half so it sticks to itself.

Don't you wrap the tape around the club before peeling the paper off?

I have it mounted on a holder that peels the backing off, can be a pain in the butt to get the roll started though.
