Re: Grip Size Issues
I used to play midsize and now I put 3 underwraps under golf pride grips for the same sizing...I originally put two but started to hook everything so went to three and have been happy since...grips however are of different thicknesses, and unless you were playing a player's softie (mine) I wouldn't be quite sure, but it ought to be in the ballpark...perhaps regrip one (6 or 7 iron) with 2 wraps for a just under midsize fit and try it out for a week on the range...

Re: Grip Size Issues
I was told you wouldn't want to use more than 2 wraps under the grip (i.e., just get a jumbo grip) because:
a) the grip would be really difficult to get on with 3 wraps, but more importantly, b) the grip would stretch and become thinner when stretched over that many wraps, so you wouldn't gain thickness...what you gain in wraps is lost in the grip thickness strectching thinner. That's what I was told....makes sense. I've gotten the Winn midsize and used 2 wraps....the original on the iron and one more I added. Fits well, feels great, and I'm hitting them better. Quote:

Re: Grip Size Issues
The guys at Golf Galaxy are even worse than the ones at Golfsmith.
me at GG: Hello, sir! Do you have this in stock? (as I pointed to something in the catalog) GG guy: If it's not out on the floor, we probably don't have it. me: You don't have it...or PROBABLY don't? Can you go check, please? GG guy: No, we don't have it. (didn't even go look) Jerks! |

Re: Grip Size Issues
STD size allows a more relaxed grip. ..no matter your strength. Golf favors the relaxed and light grip. I find the light and full release, to be far more accurate than BOMB , the BALL...

Re: Grip Size Issues
Quote:
The way to measure grips is to measure the diameter of the grip 2" down from the grip cap using a set of calipers. Standard size grips are considered to be 0.90" in diameter at this point. There are a couple of factors that determine their playing size. One is the butt diameter of the shafts in question, another is the core diameter of the grip in question, and a third is how far the grip is stretched down the shaft. Yet another is the amount of material makes up the grip, not all grips are created equal. One disadvantage of Winns is that they do not stretch as far as more traditional grips. So, one place to start is to actually measure the grips diameter of the grips that are comfortable for you. Many popular grips come in 2 different core diameters of 0.580" and 0.600", which can make a difference. Often times it takes trial and error to determine what size and type of grips feel good to you without any further manipulation.

Re: Grip Size Issues
I still don't fully grasp the concept of grip sizes so let me give you what I'm trying to work with and see what you come up with. I'm obviously kind of S-L-O-W where this is concerned. If I put some .620 grips (which I have) on my .580 shafts will this result in a bigger grip size or smaller? How much so? Is this even feasible? I have standard 7-1/2" hands and the stock grips on my '04 Callaway Big Bertha irons have been fine but need replaced. I'd like to stay with the same thickness/diameter if at all possible. They work. Thanks all.
