Reshafting Nike NDS irons
I'm having a go at reshafting my Nike NDS irons. I am pulling out the stock uniflex and putting in Dynamic Gold R300. I just pulled my 3 iron as practice and noticed it has a brass tip weight in it. I was just doing some reading and didn't realize I would need to weigh the clubs to do this properly. How important is it that I get the swingweights exact? Would I just be better off taking them to my local club fitter to do the reshaft? I'm a do-it-yourselfer and would rather save the money if I could, the local guy quoted me $240 total for labor and shafts.
Do I need to buy a swingweight scale to do this properly? I have everything else I need except the shafts and ferrules. I was thinking about using a postal scale and this calculator... Swing Weight Calculator Any opinions? Thanks.

Re: Reshafting Nike NDS irons
Do it yourself!! You should really weigh each of the headweights. You'll need this data, plus the approximate raw, uncut weight of the shafts and the spec weight of the grips you are using. You always should follow the tipping recommendations set out by the manufacturer. You can tip a little more or a little less if you think you are between flexes, but keep it consistent. You'll also need to have an idea what the finished clublength will be for each club. Take all this info and plug it into the simple swingweight spreadsheet available at the bottom right of this page:
myOstrich Golf Plug these numbers in, then you can manipulate the "added headweight" to get consistent swingweight numbers at the level you want. The easiest way to add weight with steel shafts is to pour lead powder down the shaft and plug it with a cork. You'll need a ramrod to do this as well. You can also purchase the tip weights as you saw in your 3i. Make sure your ferrules are big enough around to encompass the top edge of your hosel...you can always sand these down to size. Any more questions please feel free to ask .. Have fun !!

Re: Reshafting Nike NDS irons
Hey, thanks for the info and the link. I guess I'll just give it a go myself as I have access to a fairly accurate postal scale, should get me close enough.
This is basically what I plan to do, let me know if I am missing anything. Insert club into shaft clamp/vise Cut off old ferrule Heat hosel until bond breaks and pull off head Clean hosel with wire brush bit, swab inside with solvent Cut tip of shaft to manufacturer spec Sand tip of shaft with 80 grit sandpaper Dab a bit of epoxy in ferrule to help slide onto shaft Start ferrule onto shaft then dryfit into head to seat in approximate final location Apply epoxy into hosel and onto shaft end assuring good coverage Insert shaft into hosel until it bottoms out, slowly twisting back and forth to assure good bond Wipe off excess epoxy with solvent Sand down ferrule if necessary and wipe with acetone to regain smooth finish Measure for final club length and cut 1/4" less to allow for grip cap Install new grip I think that is everything. And I would also be adding weight if needed during this process.
