Re: Taylormade r7

I've played the r7 TP, r7 425 TP, and SuperQuad TP and have loved each one. The 460 only made it to the range, never got it out on the course. While the movable weight was nice, I found that most people didn't really change the configuration more than once or twice after setting it the first time.

Re: Taylormade r7

I played the original R7, the R7 ht and now the r7 460. Once you get the right shaft combo you will absolutely love the club. I added about 30 yards going from the R7 ht with fuji speeder 757 (240-250) to the r7 460 (270-280) with the Rombax (TP) shaft. I have never hit longer or straighter.

Re: Taylormade r7

r7 Quad is a great driver. Changing the weights really didn't effect anything more than the feel and sound at impact, but once you got it dialed in the way you like it, there was no much better out there. Easily workable, forgivable for the most part, and is just as long as most other drivers.

Re: Taylormade r7

I play the R7 425 and absolutley love it. This driver gives me the ability to change the ball flight with out changing my swing, I don't mean that I change the set up before every tee shot but when I go to the range to hit balls before tournaments if I am pulling them a touch I can throw one of the fade set ups on there and problem solved. I can also change the setting if the wind is blowing a certain direction on the majority of the holes to get the ball to "dig into the wind" to help control it more. I was between the R7 425 and the Cobra Comp 440 and the MWT was the selling point for me.

Re: Taylormade r7

Tomorrow , this old dog will finally hit a TM Driver. I was given an r7 HT, 400cc head, and decided to install my old favorite Speeder 757 R in the head, and learn the weights etc. Always wanted to hit the TM metalwoods. Will hit my 983K as well.
Shaft is in and curing. New grip as well

Re: Taylormade r7

.

You know, it's funny...

The very first new driver I ever bought was a TaylorMade Burner (circa mid 80's) and as I look back, I hit some of my best drives and had great consistency and distance. From the late eighties to just last year, (with a six-year layoff in between), I have built a variety of aftermarket drivers with heads ranging from 200cc's all the way up to 440cc's and I've had varying success with all.

Last winter, I bought my first new driver in twenty years and it was a Nike SQ Tour. I thoght I'd like it more but I couldn't get used to it nor did it suit my eye and I'm likely going to sell it.
Then, on a trip to Austin, I met a guy on a course I played there who had a 425 TP. I hit some drives with it and I loved it! So I went to Golfsmith in Austin (the 'World Headquarters) and I hit some regular 425's in their simulators and I was still impressed. When I got home last week, I surfed the web for 425 TP's and found a used one in mint condition for only $284.00.

It's in my bag right now and after having spent this last weekend playing 54 holes of golf, I am completely satisfied with this club. It hits like a dream and the 425cc head doesn't look like a toaster either. I think the stock Re*Ax/RomBax shaft is pretty good, but the experimenter in me still wants to see how this club hits with a UST V2, (which should be arriving this week).
I'm changing the two forward 2-gram weights to a 6-gram inside and a 4-gram outside to both increase the swingweight (it's a stock D-2) and to add a touch of draw bias.

I instantly loved this club the moment I tried the one that guy had and when I got this one from GlobalGolf (and yes, it really is in mint condition), I knew that I had finally found my driver which was the last "puzzle piece" in creating my perfect bag.

So I've gone full cycle. I started with TaylorMade and now I'm back to TaylorMade.

(And it only took twenty years to get here!)

I highly recommend this club!

Used both the TM r7 and my Titlest 983K, today. Moving the weights on the r7 does change ball flight,..
but then I am more used to the shot shaping that the 983 gives me.
Setting the TM neutral with four 2Gram plugas made it about the same as the Titleist. R7 Quad is a fine Driver, and the quality of Taylormade is as good as I am used to with Titleist. Can't really go wrong with either. Especially if you don't like the BIGheads!..LOL

Re: Taylormade r7

Well, I hit the r7 425 10.5* stiff flex at tryouts the past couple of days, and I ordered one. The kid that had it had it set up perfectly for my swing I guess because I hit it straight down the middle 250+ every time. Even the bad drives were going as far as my current driver, and I could go after this one without losing it in the woods. I hit a few with my driver, slice, hit it high, you name it. I hit the r7 right after, and it goes right down the middle. This is a great club compared to everything I've hit before, however I can't compare to the other top manufacturers so it may not be as great as I think.

Re: Taylormade r7

.

Just an update on the TM 425 TP.

In an earlier post, I said that I was waiting for a V2 shaft to be delivered and man was it ever worth the wait!

I popped that shaft in, played a few rounds with it and it is pure Buttahhhhh!

The TM 425 TP with this V2 shaft is easily the best driver I've ever owned. Beautiful trajectory (at 9.5 deg.), shape-ability and with the V2 shaft I have a "standard" shot option for control and a *Holy S----! option for when I really want to let the shaft out.

* Holy S---! is based upon an actual comment made by a playing companion after watching a "let-the-shaft-out" tee shot.

He just stood there and said, "Holy S---!"

I believe I'll refer to such things as the "H.S. Option" from here on in.

BTW, my longest to date with this setup is 315 yds. with a "long average" in the 290's
"Controlled" average is in the 255 - 265 range.

I always wanted a two-speed club.

Love this club!

Re: Taylormade r7 Superquad

Okay, I'm slow on jumping on the R7. I have been playing a Callaway FT3 for almost two years. Just bought a very lightly used Superquad (9.5* with the Fujikura 65 "re ax" stiff shaft), tweaked the weights and can't believe how many fairways I hit today. I hit mostly fades with the FT3 and hit maybe 6 fairways a round if I'm lucky. The R7 was super straight for me. I hit 5 of 7 fairways on the front 9 today. I wasn't keeping track on the back since it got pretty windy. Next time I'm going to adjust it for more draw with both heavy weights in the back to see what happens. I know I should be working on my swing to correct my fault but just haven't been able to do it repeatedly. The R7 seems to be fixing it. I'll need more than one round just to be sure. The only downside is that I hit it nowhere near as far as my FT3. I was always 10-15 yards shorter today with the R7. I'll take that downside though if I can keep it in the fairway consistently! So far I like it!

Just a follow up to my initial review of my "new" driver. Still loving it. Played two more rounds with it. I am fairly close to distance now in comparison to my FT3. Not sure what was going on the first round I played with it. Maybe a little cautious, nervous, or...??? Anyway, now that I am confident that I can hit this thing and pretty consistently I am very pleased with it.
