Re: Nike Sumo
My job had been kicking me in the back side lately. So yesterday I took a day of leave and went out and played 36 holes. In the proshop was a demo Nike Sumo with a Proforce V2 shaft stiff flex. I said what the heck and I play all 36 with it. I currently play the Nike SQ with an Avix 6564 shaft stiff/x-flex (289 CPM).
Looks: The Sumo does not look much different than the SQ except you can see where they moved the weight of the club head a little more to the rear of the club. Other than that it looks like a SQ.
Feel: It feels a little more solid than the SQ but feel is hard to tell on a head because of the shaft.
Sound: It is a little louder and high pitched then the SQ but I got used to it pretty quick.
Distance: It was longer than my SQ in a sense because I could swing faster and still hit it straight. It is the most forgiving driver I have ever hit.
Proforce V2 Shaft: I am pretty picky when it comes to my shafts so I have to admit that I looked at this shaft with a jaundice eye. The V2 is a control shaft. I gained no distance with this shaft. The feel of the shaft is not a sweet as my Avix however the V2 cost less than 1/3 of my Avix. The control on the V2 was outstanding. The ball went where I hit it. If it was a bad shot it was because it was a bad swing. The shaft did not feel whippy and I only felt it bend at impact once and my swing speed avg. is 112mph. For the price this shaft was great. Where I gained distance with this shaft is when I had the confidence to swing hard but I am not sure if any distance gained was with the shaft or the head. I bombed one drive for 301 yards via the GPS.
My buddy hit my SQ and loved it. Matter of fact he loved it so much he made me an offer I could not refuse. Thanks to the sale I now have a new Nike Sumo with a Proforce V2 stiff shaft on order.
I tinker with my equipment but it takes me a long time to change what I have. This was the first driver that was the real deal from the start.
