Re: Best Ball Under $25
Give a few more specifics of what you are looking for, just distance, or some feel and spin.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
I want a combination. Titleist Pro V1 would be my pick but I can't justify that because at my course theres a lot of water and my previous golf balls seem to be attracted to it lol. I would like good distance, but also great feel and spin.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
The Srixon Ad333 is a good ball that offers some greenside spin. The HX Hot and Nike Juice are mostly distance, not a whole lot of control. Bridgestone E5 or E6 are good options as well.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
I can't hit the PV1 far enough with my swing speed. I should say I can't hit it any farther, which is about 100 mph. I seem to get the same distance from the Titleist NXT Tour and it runs about $26 a dozen around here. If you're looking for a cheaper ball, the Nike Distance Soft (green box) was rated pretty highly by Consumer Reports last year, and runs about $15 a box. I palyed a couple boxes but really didn't like them as much as the NXT, they were a bit hard for me.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
The So/Lo is a lower compression, that means it takes less club head speed to fully compress the ball. The NXT will give a slightly "clickier" feel off the club face while the NXT Tour will give a slightly flatter trajectory due to the dimple configuration and the dual core design. I would suggest finding a place that sells them by the sleeve and getting a sleeve of each type to see what works best, that way you are not stuck with a full dozen of a ball that you don't like.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
Out of the three Titleist balls, I would start with the NXT, then NXT Tour, then So/Lo. I would put the Bridgestone balls up there with the NXT's and then the AD333 ahead of the So/Lo.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
I should add I've played the Bridgestone E6 as well. It felt nice (that's important to me) but it was about 10 yards shorter than the NXT Tour. I used to play the DT SoLo before they redesigned it a year or so ago, and liked it, but it was a low compression ball which I like the feel of with my irons, but I got less distance out of it with my woods. I don't know if the new design is any different or not. When you go to the two piece balls it's hard to get the "balata" feel and still get the distance. It's either a rock which flies off the woods but has no iron feel or just the opposite.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
Well, everyone is different, it's all about feel and we will all vary on what we like. For me, I like the Nike SuperSofts and the Srixon AD 333's.
I am going to try the Titleist So/Lo's, I have a sleeve of them to try. Only problem with those is they say "109th Congress" and have the US Senate seal on them, I'm afraid they will immediately fly crooked once I hit them ![]()

Re: Best Ball Under $25
NIke 'Power Distance' line of golf balls...I use the 'soft' in the lime green box.
These were rated one of the best balls by consumer reports, if that is worth anything. Usually they are @16 a dozen at Target or any chain store. Good distance, nice feel, and my round isn't ruined if I lose one. |

Re: Best Ball Under $25
Quote:
The Noodle is a pretty good ball - fairly soft, but doesn't spin all that much. The Warbird is a rock, stay away from those. HX Hot to my experience was nothing special - overpriced for what it is. The Strata Tour Pro. used to be up there as a 2nd tier ball, just under the Strata Tour Ace, which was their competition for the Pro-V. It's really cheap at the moment because it's been discontinued, and the stores are trying to get rid of stock. It's a pretty good ball overall, but if you can find them, the Strata Tour Soft might fit your game a bit better than the Professional... it's hard to say though.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
Noodle is ok ball, the Warbird like hitting rocks (of course that just my opinion) the HX hot nice ball, and the Strata is Ok. The Pinnacle Long Drive is well worth checking out box of 18 at Wal-Mart $14.95 also check out the Nike Power Drives there are three different ones they are very good ball at about twenty bucks.

Re: Best Ball Under $25
This is just my vote for the very underrated Pinnacle Exception ball. It really is very unlike the Pinnacle Golds or Pinnacle Distance balls, the Exception is very soft, good spin, and very nice on the budget for what it does. Pinnacle balls are made by Accushnet, the same people who make Titleists, and it is obvious that some of the knowledge used in making thier ProV1 series went into making the Exceptions.
That said, I also really like the Bridgestone E5 (urethane cover) or E6 (one of the few three piece balls under $25) balls, and both are seamless which does improve performance at least a tiny bit. The Srixon AD333 is pretty good for the price as well. Last edited by bignose : 02-24-2007 at 12:30 PM. |
