I just picked up the Nikon ProStaff Laser 440. It was the lowest price ($199 at Sportsmans Warehouse) of those with scan I could find locally, and I hate waiting for a new toy to come in the mail. Besides... this way I can hide the expense from my wife until it's long over and done with... I paid cash withdrawn from my own credit union account rather than use a credit card where she sees all the charges...
This unit is small, good to 440 yards (surprise), and has a scanning function. Battery is said to be good for 6000 shots. I've now shot everything I can see from my back yard, and can't wait to get it out on the course. I never really thought I'd want one, but I was playing a course last week, and I know that there are some serious inconsistencies in the yardage markers from my home course. I can't say if my home course is perfect, but at least it's consistent. This other course had variances from hole to hole. 150 yards one time was a 7I to the center, next hole a 7I from 150 was 10 yards over the back.
Hopefully tomorrow will be the big test. Today it's 45° with 40 mph winds... playable but brutal. Tomorrow is supposed to better before the next late winter storm blows in on Thursday.
Maybe I'll get lucky and get my new clubs from Christian today and get to play them tomorrow too... one can dream anyway...
