Re: Golf Ball for..........

You're around the same handicap as me. At that handicap your good enough for a nice ball, but your still gonna lose some in the weeds, so you dont wanna blow alot of cash getting Pro-V's and 1-Blacks. Ive been very happy with the new DT-Solos. Give those a try

Re: Golf Ball for..........

i would suggest a cheaper 3 layer ball, such as the maxfli fire's ($20) or the bridgestone e6's ($25). im a 17 handicap with a 105 mph driver swing and about a 90 mph iron swing and these are great balls.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

Something the likes of the NXT series or Hogan's the Hawk would work out well, or the Srixon AD-333. There are a ton of balls out there, best thing to do is purchase a sleeve of a handful of different models, and see which performs best for you.

I like the NXT balls a lot. Good distance and soft feel.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

See if you can find Maxfli Blackmax's being sold at deep discounts....they're a great premium quality level ball at a very reasonable price. Last I heard, people were finding them on sale for around $20.
However, the e5's are also a great ball within the $20ish price range

Re: Golf Ball for..........

Find a place that has a launch monitor and can do a golf ball fitting. It depends on the type of swing that you have what type of ball will work best for you with the driver. The ball will effect the spin rate off your driver and will have a great impact on how far you drive the ball. For the cost of a dozen balls, you can find out the best one to use and save yourself the trouble of trying to discover it by accident.

EXCELLENT ADVISE! Why take everyone's word for it and go broke trying balls when you can find out for sure on a launch monitor?

Re: Golf Ball for..........

You'll notice a trend with me, everyone, no matter what skill level, would benefit from being properly fitted for their equipment. One of my head pros when I was an assistant always said that you wouldn't buy shoes that didn't fit, even if you were just starting to run, yet more people buy golf clubs or balls without getting properly fit for them.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

I was fitted for a set of Ping I5s ,now I just need to find that perfect ball for my swing. Do the fitted clubs make that big of a difference, my fitter said they may lower my score a stroke or two.

I feel that fitted clubs make a lot of difference. It eliminates one variable. But I think the most important part of having fitted clubs is the mental apsect of it. You, knowing without a shadow of a doubt, that your clubs fit you exactly does wonders for your confidence, along with helping you become more efficient.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

A very good point, golf is such a mental game. Every variable that you can remove gives you that much more confidence over a shot. As far as taking strokes off your game, it may not have an immediate effect, but once you are able to groove a swing, you will find yourself striking the ball much more consistently. Your misses will be better as well, you have a better chance at saving par from just off the green than from the trees right of the green.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I once observed a little kid, years back, buying a pair of Air Force Ones,(The UGLIEST shoe ever made.)in size 13 men's, even though they were probably 12 sizes too big..I aked him why he bought them, he said, "To be cool, and to have some." I was thinking how uncool it was to spend $300, on a pair of shoes, that you couldn't even wear. Spending more than $70, on any shoe, is ridiculous, IMHO.

Yes, but he wasn't buying them to wear, he was buying them to have.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

I think I may switch over to a Bridgestone B330-S. I found one on vacation a really liked it. I figure its probably getting over looked by the likes of the Pro-V1 and X. For most of last year I bounced around from Pro-V1 X and the Nike Platinum. I went to the Platinum because I was trying to find something that didn't spin as much because for some reason I was getting a ton of spin with the X. But the platinum ended up spinning quite a bit too. So I'm hoping the B330-S will help with that problem. Although I hear Nike the new Platinum would be close to Tiger's ball, and its a little harder and has some less spin compared to the current Platinum. But definitely try the Bridgestone.

The B330S is a great ball, good distance and great touch around the greens, I think it is one of the most underrated balls on the market.

Re: Golf Ball for..........

NXT's are a great ball and if you go to a retailer like lostgolfballs.com you can get MINT condition balls for cheap. I've gotten ProV1's from them numerous times and they have been in excellent condition. The Big Bertha balls are also pretty good balls, but they scuff up a bit easier than most.
