SkyCaddie and Humidity

Searched the threads but couldn't find anything.

Been having trouble with my SkyCaddie (SG4) freezing up in higher humidity.

The only way out is to open the back, remove the battery and replace it.

Is anyone else having this problem? Do you have a better solution?

I have a SG2 and have never had a problem like you are describing and it doesn't get much more humid than here on the Texas Gulf Coast. I have had good luck with their customer service. Send them an email describing the problem.

I'll tell ya', every time someone tries to re-invent the wheel they always mess something up. They got it right with the SG2. It's simple and basically bulletproof. I've had ZERO problems with my SG2 and it does everything I need it to do and the charge lasts for at least 36 holes.

What more can I ask for?

Talking Re: SkyCaddie and Humidity

i have an SG4 that was acting like that a few months ago. I call Skygolf and they sent me a update link for my caddie. it works great! no problems. I didn't have a problem with customer service either. I don't know what all the bad press is about.
maybe one of their competitors trying to stab them in the back.

Re: SkyCaddie and Humidity

SkyCaddie had somre real problems a few months back when the old satillite was turned off and the new one came online. For some reason, some models of the GPS didn't work with the new satillite and they had to be updated. I heard from a few sources that SkyCaddie refused to admit it was their problem or even that there was a problem.

Thanks for the useful info. Called Skycaddie and a little girl "Geneise Spates" recognized my problem immediately and updated my software.

It's positive useful info like yours that make a forum interesting and helpful.

Thxs again

Re: SkyCaddie and Humidity

I have an SG4 and I can't say I've had any issues with it in humid climates. I've used it in Mexico, South Carolina and New Jersey, all of which can get very humid, and it's worked without issue.

Sky Caddy is made by Magellan, and Magellan has an ugly reputation in the GPS industry for abysmal customer service. It's one of the reasons why Garmin is the leader in the industry at the moment. Maybe that poor service extends to Magellan's corporate customers too. Or for that matter, Sky Caddy may just be a subsidiary of Magellan, which would go even farther toward explaining that attitude.

Re: SkyCaddie and Humidity

I don't know about any of that but they repaired mine for free long after the warranty had expired. I have had nothing but good experiences with their customer service.
