New Golf Balls

So at my place of business we have this "store competition" called Store of the Quarter. This past quarter my store won. So we got to choose one thing out of this book of a bunch of stuff... clothes, coffe mugs and what not... so here i am flipping through and i come across a dozen Titleist Pro V1 golf balls monogrammed with the company logo.

needless to say i jumped all over that! and they just came in today... i cant wait to get out on the course and try them out. I have always wanted to try them, but at 60 bucks a dozen i have been hesitant (esp. with the rate at which i lose them ) So i figured this was the only way to go about it!

Re: New Golf Balls

.

Sixty bucks a dozen?

Wow. I generally pay about $45 per dozen at a local driving range for Pro V1's (plus tax, of course).

But at any rate, I'm sure you'll like them. I've been a Titleist fan for decades going all the way back to the old balata's and I love Pro V1's. They're the only ball I use. They fly beautifully, are very workable and they stop on a dime. Plus, they feel perfect coming off the clubface. I know they're pricey, and unlike their predecessors, they're very durable so if you keep them in play, a dozen can last a long time.

To me, if a golf ball offers me EVERYTHING I wish for and costs fifteen dollars more per dozen than a golf ball that offers less than everything, then that fifteen dollars is money well spent. Playing Pro V1's takes the guesswork out of at least one area of this game and with all of the other things to consider when playing golf, at least I know that "It can't be the ball".

Enjoy your new Pro V's!

Re: New Golf Balls

That ball sells for $45 at all the local stores. I think $60 is the so called Retal price for the ball, not what they sell for. The only problem you may have with the ProV1 is if you fight a slide or hook, then the higher spin rate will make things worse for you. If that's not a problem for you, you should really like your new toys. Good luck with them.

Re: New Golf Balls

When I was a poor graduate student, every now and then a lab mate (that's what you call fellow graduate students who spend untold hours on the bench alongside you) would opt to take the afternoon off and play golf (only after making earth-shattering discoveries mind you). My friends' wife was always there to greet him with "how many balls did you lose this time?" sarcasm. After a while, another friend and I who went on these occasional golf ventures would echo the resounding "Ohhhhh nooooo" whenever he would lose a ball knowing it would add to his "lost ball count" when asked by his wife on our return, lol. He had a penchant for always using expensive new balls and us other guys were happy to use anything in the bag (at that time).

Re: New Golf Balls

I found one of those bad boys last night. I know there must be regulations on this sort of thing and at the risk of sounding stupid as it was probably my imagination but it seemed very slightly bigger than other balls? I didnt actually compare it but it felt good and weighty in my hand!

I did also notice that it was still in immaculate condition (not one scratch of scuff) after at least 7 holes (lots of strokes) before I managed to hit a rare hook off the tee and lose it OOB.

Re: New Golf Balls

I still have the box of Pro V1's I won last year in the pick 'em contest for The Open right here at GRW...monogrammed w/xnavyct on 'em....it's like I don't want to 'waste' them, and am saving them for when my game deserves them (whenever that will be).

I've actually been playing those D2 Feel's lately, doesn't make me too mad when I put one in the water on the 4th hole, or in the woods on 7....plus, it's not a bad ball at all.

Re: New Golf Balls

I got a half dozen Callaway Tour ix balls in the mail a couple of weeks ago that I won't play yet, because I don't feel I'm good enough to play them. I've been playing Nike Power Distance Softs, but I'm thinking I'll pick up some D2 Feels tonight to see if I like those.

I don't understand that mindset. You need to be more positive.

Re: New Golf Balls

well, i used the pro v1's for the first time yesterday... and i must say that either i was slicing much worse than usual or the ball was aiding into the slice... i wasnt hitting the ball well at all the entire round... so im not gonna to say i dislike them... i switched back to the SFT2's i was using so i could lose those instead of the pro v1's

Re: New Golf Balls

Ive played the Pro v1, but I usually hit the Nike One. Balls are something I fluctuate on. Never can pass up a sale!

ProV1 is a high-spin ball, and that includes spinning in any direction, including sideways ....makes a slice that much worse.
