Re: Adams Insight
I've been playing the same Cleveland Launcher stainless steel 3-wood for over 10 years now, having not changed because of the wonderful direction control I had with it. Lately, I'd been feeling the need to pick up some distance in that part of my game, however. Age kind of does that to you!
Anyway, I demo'd a number of fairway wood options (almost all the top brand choices) at my favorite non-mega-golfstore shop and felt that the Adams had the feel and look I wanted. I went with the BUL, and got a price about $30 better than what the big stores were offering.
During my tournament round yesterday, I hit it only 5 times, and two of those were off par 4 tees where I would have hit driver but just wanted to hit the club. Both of those were around 240 off the tee, with a slight draw. Two fairway shots felt great, even though one was a little fat and still flew about 225 with a slight draw downwind. The 5th shot was choke-down shot from a hardpan lie after taking an unplayable. I had no difficulty working that shot from left to right around a couple of pine trees, into the center of the fairway, gap-wedge distance from the green, maybe a 220 yard shot choked down below the grip.
Granted, it's only 5 shots, but right now I think this is going to be a great choice for me. It really sets up well when you look down at it, feels really hot at impact, and unlike other woods I've owned and tried, I don't have to worry about duck-hooking it.
