What have you found and KEPT on the course?

Spinning off LG's "Honesty Test" thread:

Besides tees and golf balls, have you ever kept something you found on the course? Maybe golf-related, maybe not. Offhand, the only thing I remember keeping and subsequenty using for myself was a metal ball marker that had a nice design on one side. Also, twice I found a fiberglass shaft without a head; those I brought home for my wife to use as stakes in her garden.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

I found a putter that was obviously thrown in disgust into the woods. I was searching for a ball and stepped on the head. It was over grown by weeds, so it had been there a while. I gave it to my brother in law, he still uses it.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

I found a Diablo 3 wood club head off in the brush in a pile of golf balls. It was on a par 5 about 250 out from the green, figured someone hit a bad shot and snapped. My best guess is that the person mowing the lawn didn't want to run over it, along with the golf balls, and tossed them to the side into a pile. Found a few newer Titleists and TaylorMades, too.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

Nothing that I recall on purpose. As I mentioned in the other thread I kept a PW that I found on vacation and forgot to turn in. The vacation spot was 300 miles away and that was the last time we went there. It's a very old and rather heavy club. I used it a couple of times, but couldn't hit it at all. I think it's still lying around somewhere.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

Never found anything but man I keep losing stuff. Lost my Navy ball marker the round before last so I buy a generic marker. Lost it by the 5th hole last round. Anyway I just ordered these...

A little pricey but the money all goes to the troops.

I don't get it. No holes in my pocket...so if any of you guys ever play Chula Vista and you find a Navy ball marker...I want it back!

I found a money clip with $100.00 dollars in it. I returned it to the clubhouse. A few weeks later they called me and said no one had claimed it and that the moeny was mine. So I guess I have.

Nice markers. Do you ride or walk when you play?

I bet you put your leg up on the dash area of the cart while you ride. I lost 3-4 expensive pitch repair tools ($20+) like the ones pictured below before I finally figured out they were falling out of my pocket when I put my leg up on the cart while riding hole to hole.

I found a headcover once at a course and put it in my bag intending to give it back when I got in, but completely forgot about it. I found it in my bag about three months later and still have it. I don't use it though. I feel like that would be bad karma

Ding ding ding! I've had this happen to me a few times so I always try not to put my feet up anymore. As for taking something from the course, I found a divot repair tool from Torrey Pines and ended up keeping it. Other than that, I've turned in clubs, headcovers, etc.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

This could take a while......

I found a ball retriever in the water - I guess someone dropped it and said to heck with it - I cleaned it up and gave it to Mrs Bogey.

Once I found a 3W head in the woods, pretty generic looking, broken from its shaft. I put it aside until a few weeks later, when a kid at the course told me he sure needed a 3W. I went home and cut down an old graphite shaft, glued on the head and put on a new grip, and next time I saw the kid I gave it to him - he was thrilled! He's grown now, but later he told me he used it a lot and liked it (for Pistol, that was about a 10 yr old Stevie D).

Again years ago, looking for balls as I passed a small creek on the 3rd hole, I found a TaylorMade Tour Burner head buried in the mud bank of the creek. It looked awful, but with some goood cleaning turned out to be in excellent condition. I put a titanium shaft in that head and replaced the Tour Burner I was using at the time, and drove with it for a couple of years.

Several times I found bills at the course - the best happened once as I was sitting in the pro shop talking with the counter-person. A golfer came in and during the conversation break, I noticed a bill under my chair - it was a $20! I asked everyone around and asked the person working there to ask everyone if they had lost money, but it went unclaimed, to my benefit. Another time as I went to the bathroom I found a $20 bill on the locker room floor - as I sat on the throne issuing my morning decree, two fellows came in and and I heard one say to the other "maybe I dropped it in here". I yelled out and asked if he had lost money, and he said he was missing a $20 - I handed it to him over the stall door and resumed my deliberations.

Once I found a Bag Boy pullcart sitting at the edge of the woods with the handle broken off. I took it home and found a piece of conduit that was exactly the right size, cut and bent it to the proper handle shape, and used that pull cart (infrequently since I generally carried then) for some years.

I dropped my $100 Arnette sunglasses on the 10th hole somewhere. GF bought them for me. She still doesn't know. No one ever turned them in.

Buy one of those cheap magnetic ballmarkers that have a hat clip. Remove the cheap marker and put the Navy marker on it. Hopefully, it is ferrous metal and will work. I have a Masters ball mark I interchange with the cheap one. Works a charm.

Good idea C-Tech! I should receive them any day now. I'll check to see if they have any iron in them.

Sorry to hear that Ryder! Pretty cool what your brother did. Hang on to the others...

Playing with a friend who had just bought a 3 wheel push cart and he was having a bad round. Part of his disgust was with the new cart that would not go straight. I think the front wheel needed tweaking. Instead, he disassembled the thing one piece at a time and threw it into some brambles along a creek. Like you, Bogey, I carry so I wasn't interested, but I often wondered if anyone rummaged around and put it back together.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

My friend lost a brand new wedge on a local muni course. He called the pro shop the next morning and they said it was in and would hold it for him. He dropped by on the way home that afternoon and it was no where to be found. Hmmm? The head pro just looked at him and shrugged his shoulders - "I don't know where it went." It was the same pro he talked to in the morning but they wouldn't replace the club. It had to be an employee that stole it.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

I told a similar story in another thread except I lost both my PW and my SW. I had left them near the 18th green in my hurry to finish in the near total darkness. I also got the same story from the club pro. Ultimately, it was my fault but I have a policy about never doing business with someone I can't trust so I've never been back to that course. Hopefully I used up all the good shots in those Hogan wedges.

Low life's.

I'm LH'ed and like others have stated I've never lost a club on a course. I've honestly never left one anywhere but I'm pretty sure that the chances of a left lander finding the club and also being a thief is pretty low.

I imagine there are several people who have access to the lost & found at many places. It's probably not all that unusual for the good stuff to disappear after a few days.

In my case I called as soon as the course opened the next morning and was told that both wedges were at the desk. When I arrived to pick them up that afternoon they were gone. I was told that "a friend of yours picked them up earlier today."

It wasn't a course I played very often and the guy that I'd played with the night before was standing right next to me.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

So what has Arc learned learned here...The pro shops were privileged to the sting Golf Digest set up. The golfers returned the clubs and the toilet cleaners left them alone 'cause they were instructed to.

I lost a PW at Cottonwood. Called up and they said they had it. When i got there it was missing. guy said "it was just here!" Seems a kid that worked there was left handed and was on the range trying it out! Got my club back. I really didn't have a problem with that. I think if I worked there and being left handed...if some good left hand wedges were to come alone. I might give them swing or two. Wouldn't steal them though.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

When I worked at the golf course, we'd find stuff constantly. We'd take it all up to the pro shop for storage in case anyone came to claim it. I kept a few clubs at the end of the year when they'd empty the bin and throw em away to clear the shed. The only club I still have is my putter, but it's worked out very well for me over the years.

Found an Adams A7 Idea hybrid cover. Stuck it in my bag and forgot to drop it off at the pro shop. Still sitting in my garage. If anyone needs one, let me know. You can have it.

It looks like this http://www.scorelow.com/media/images..._hyb_hc_LG.jpg

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

My uncle and I were playing the course where we were members - on the 17th hole (with a cliff OB to the right) we were teeing up and spotted a head cover in the bushes. We picked it up, and while waiting to hit we looked a bit more, and IN THE BRANCHES of a tree was a driver! When we retrieved it, it turned out to be a Callaway ERC II (US non-conforming) driver, with firm flex graphite shaft. It was in excellent condition. We figured someone had dumped three or four drives OB and chucked it away in rage...

We took it to the clubhouse and told the kid we had found a driver on the 17th - if anyone claimed it we would bring it in. My uncle played that driver for over a season before his car was stolen with his clubs in the trunk.

We were training (Diving) off the Isle Of Bute, summer 1991 and because of tides, decompression tables etc we got quite a lot of time off.
3 friends and I would go up to Port Bannantyne GC,a very short but hilly 9 hole course on Bute and enjoy the scenery etc.
My friend Trevor put his wallet, watch with wedding ring attached, keys, loose change and I.D card with tags in his bag but......yes opened the pocket up for goodness knows what and...... scattered the lot over that nightmare climb of a course!
Got to the 18th!!!!! of course when he noticed and we spent about 2 hours in near darkness at the end looking for all his valuables whilst listening to "Oh Liz will kill me if I don't find my wedding ring" and "Someone will find them and hand them in won't they?" or the best one "If I can't my wallet guys will you all help me out until we get home?" Thankfully we found everything and boy did he pay at the bar!

Friend of mine found and kept his wife on the course. Well, when he found her, she wasn't his wife, or even anyone he knew. She was playing as a single and caught up with his twosome. They invited her along, and the rest is history... and herstory, too.

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

My last time out I found the cover for a Odyssey White Hot putter just off the 15th green as I was heading towards my ball. I tossed it in my cart. As I was leaving the green I found the putter that went with it a few yards from where I found the cover. As I arrived on 16th tee I saw the owner hurrying back to the green. I waved him over and gave them to him. He was playing with 2 other guys and I wanted to ask him what the story was behind it, but he quickly took off. He probably chipped in.

Really? All the time? I imagine she might appreciate that during the summer, but at night and in the winter, not so much. Did she at least get some shelter?

Re: What have you found and KEPT on the course?

The one thing I did find and keep was a Bill (£5). I was in a play-off against Constantino Rocca at Sandmoor GC when we returned to the 1st tee. I pushed my shot so called a Prov, but had to walk to my bag to get a ball, on they way back I found the bill. Made a par and won through too.
Another funny find that I didn't keep was a car. Playing early one morning we came across a nice car that had been dumped in some bushes, even had a key in the ignition.

Also, twice I found a fiberglass shaft without a head; those I brought home for my wife to use as stakes in her garden.
Other than lost golf balls (and even those I let be if there is the slightest possibility that they're still in play), I don't think I've ever kept anything.
