Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

Ever lose anything out there? I had a huge scare one day last year: Around the 7th hole, I saw that I'd forgotten to zip up a vertical bag pocket... the one where my valuables pouch was (wallet, keys, cell phone). I didn't want to freak out in front of my playing partners, and couldn't be sure that the pouch was in that pocket, anyway. So for the next hole or two, I'd hit a shot, then frantically (but furtively) search my bag's various pockets. Found the pouch, finally, but what a scare. Ironically, I was hitting good shots in that stretch.

I guess the only thing I've lost was an umbrella, but it had my name on it, and I lost it on my home course, where someone turned it in and the pro shop staff kept it for me. Not too exciting. I'll bet you folks have better stories.

I'm very organized and a bit obsessive so no I've never lost anything on the course - except for a few balls here and there. Knock on wood.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

A few head covers....all gone for good. Temporarily my range finder. I'd taken it onto the tee to see how for the hazard carry was. I left it lying on the ground. I realized it when I went to get a read on my approach (3rd shot, it was a par 5). I road back and picked it up.

and of course my temper and dignity more often than I'd care to admit.

One thing I lost that I have never lived down was a wedding ring.

It wasn't on purpose either.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

I lost my wedding ring about 5 years ago at a local course. It was a hot day and must have slipped off as I was drying my hands prior to a shot.

I reported it missing at the pro shop, with little hope of ever getting it back. A couple of hours later I got a call from the course informing me that someone had found it and turned it in. I wanted to give the person something for being so honest, but they never left their name.

I've lost a headcover, towels, my favourite divot tool, and a nice pair of golf sunglasses. I did once lost my Como Come! putter cover but it turned up in the clubhouse a week or so later. I wish I had the sunglasses back.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

I lost a small towel I used around the greens. I actually left it in the cart after the round, but when asked the next day I never got it back. I also lost a towel out ON the course somewhere that I never got back, either. I THOUGHT I'd lost my wedding ring somewhere, but fortunately I had forgotten that I took it off so I wouldn't lose it and found it in my pocket. And then most recently, I lost my pitch mark repair tool with magnetic ball marker. At least I've never lost anything too expensive.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

Besides the occasional loss of sanity and one sand wedge:

Sunglasses
Hybrid headcover
One of the best little pocket knives I've ever had! It was a Gerber, with the best little nail clippers, and they don't make them anymore.

I have found:
- a wallet with several hundred dollars in it
- numerous headcovers
- several clubs
- a 3-cell Maglight flashlight
- a small cooler with some beer and Ensure inside
- a security guard badge
- a small tackle box full of lures and plastic baits

P.S Yes, I turned everything I found into the pro shop, except for the few times the owners came by looking for their items, then I gave it to them directly!

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

I lost my sanity... I think it was on the 14th hole. if anyone found it, they didn't turn it in. I'm not really certain that it's a bad thing though.... but then I'm nuts so my judgment might be suspect.

I can explain - I view that part of my bag as one big space for the clubs - so they are actually all in their place.

Oh yeah... my life, almost. I nearly forgot that one. League is a firm believer that the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line regardless of obstacles or terrain. We were playing a course of his choosing, switching between the tips and the whites... well basically at League's whim. This hole was a dogleg right with water all the way down the right side. For some reason, I have no idea why, we played the whites on this hole making it play only about 340. With water right I aimed left which was rimmed by a hill. My drive didn't fade. League then pipes up "oh that's OB over that hill, yeah you're probably OB". Oh, good to know. So I hit my provisional a little bit straighter. We rode to my provisional and I spotted my first ball at the bottom of the other side of the hill... which was OB for no apparent reason I could see. I wanted to go get my first ball. He said hop in I'll drive you. So he proceeds to gun it across and down the hill at what seemed like a 45* angle. As we bounced along down/across the hill with me at the business end of about a half-ton of golf cart and.... oh just a little bit less of Leaguegolf my survival instinct kicked in and I bailed out much to his endless amusement. He even birdied the hole... I think I took a 7 with my provisional. I don't think he's driven us since.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

I can't prove it, but I think I lost my wedding ring on the golf course less than a year after I was married. There was one other thing, but the decorum of this forum will not allow me to mention. But I'm sure you all can figure it out. Oh those nights of watering greens.

Re: Stuff you've lost on the course (not just clubs)

I just lost my wedding ring on Sunday. I was playing The Slammer and The Squire at World Golf Village and since I didn't have my clubs, I had to rent some. I didn't have my usual place for things and it musta fallen out of the cart somewhere.....I had that ring for 20 years. My wife's not mad - she understands - she's getting me another one tomorrow.
