What was your best shot of the round thread...

I had an idea for a thread topic a month ago when we were all recounting our best shots of the year...a thread that we could share our best shots of the round we played, plus save it for posterity so that at the end of every year it is easy to recount what our year's best was (yes, I'm getting older and need reminders!)

So...what was your best shot of your round?

Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...

I'll start...

So far this year I have a few candidates for "Shot of the Year"... they are:

178 yd par 3...put the ball within a footprint of the hole and then my playing partner drops his provisional ball on the rim of the cup and spins back 3 inches to lay inside of mine...

This past Tuesday...second shot on the #1 most difficult hole on my course (rated, not personal feeling)...scrubbed the tee shot to the right of a 90* dogleg...had a shot that required hitting to an elevated green 210 yds away, over 30 foot trees cutting the dogleg...dropped one right in there for a 12 inch tap in...drew my hybrid around the tallest of the trees and over the rest pulling this one off...I don't even dream that big...

Today...scrubbed my tee shot (common theme it would seem) and had a tough lie that would require a left to right worked knockdown over a bunker to a front pin location from 165 yds...guess what I did!!! Bent one to 2 feet with my 7 iron...

What do you got!?!?!

What I "got" is another 6 inches of snow last night and a bleak outlook on when I'll even play my next round. Great thread though and I'll try to have at least one swing that would qualify once I'm able to play.

Some of us brave the cold. I'll let you know if anything good happens tomorrow although my best shot of the round may not be up to your standards.

Not the point...point is to post your best shot, share it with all of us and, to call up a Dionne Warwickish phrase, help us "celebrate" that shot with you...if you have a shot that you really felt good about, post it, share it, let us enjoy it and have it saved here so that you can look back and think, "that WAS pretty sweet!!!!"

Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...

Now that you mention it, I haven't had a shot of the year yet. I've had good rounds, but I haven't holed anything out from distance or made any 70 putts yet in 2008. Hopefully that will change this week in Myrtle Beach.

...wait, I did hole out a bunker shot for birdie a few weeks ago. It wasn't an especially difficult bunker shot, about 25 feet to the pin. Hit a great shot to the right spot and it rolled in.

Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...

Last Saturday I played and the 9th hole is a short, slight dogleg left par 4. Safe shot is about 200-220 into the turn, then about 70 yards to the green. If it wasn't for some trees down the left side, and having to carry over a lake, going for the green would be an easy 240-250 yards. I have pulled off a lucky draw before and reached it, but can't count on it. So using a 5.5 wood, I intended to put it down just inside and to the far end of the turn. I ended up pushing the ball, heading towards a set of tees for the adjacent hole. When I got to my ball, I was sitting down in a swale, about 100 yards out. I couldn't hit it high because of some overhanging limbs, but had to get it about 20 feet off the ground to clear some small pines and a mound about 30 yards away. I had about a 10 foot space between 2 oak trees to hit through. So I took a 7i, choked down and played it back, and punched it right at the flag. It cleared the trees and mound, landed on the edge of the green, rolled about 25 feet to stop 5 feet past the hole! Great thing is, I could honestly say,"I meant to do that!", at least as far as getting it near the hole. Five feet was a bit closer than I had envisioned! I told my buddy exactly what I was trying to do before I hit it. He couldn't believe it!

Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...

I'm finally gonna get to tee it up in the morning with my buddies for my last round with them before the big move. I hope I have one of those "feel good" shots to report tomorrow evening. We had 3 inches of snow yesterday, so we are driving a couple of hours south to get it in.

Have a great time! Since it will be your last round together, I'm sure every shot will be memorable.

Thanks, Diane, what a nice thing to say. It will be bittersweet for me. These guys have been my closest friends for the past 5 years. I am gonna miss em, but i am really looking forward to the move, too.

You may think I'm crazy, but bring your camera. After all you need to have visible proof of your last road trip together. On the positive side, think of all the great shots you will have in rounds once you're in much warmer Tucson. We look forward to hearing about those too.

All those would be the shot of my life. Literally, I probably don't hit it inside 5 feet with an 8 iron or more 5 times in a year. Gonna start calling you Tiger.

Isn't that the truth. Myself, I'd just love to be able to play a round again. The itch caught me and I bought a new driver yesterday and once it shows up, I'll be dying to get in some swings!

Re: What was your best shot of the round thread...

Played this morning and had a good one, but not one that will challenge for the shot of the year...

Clean middle of the fairway lie 125 yds out...hit a low spinner with the pw that stopped one shoe length (14 inches or so) from the hole...felt good about that one
