First round of the new year.
I'm excited about tomorrow. The weather looks great and I have tee times at a pretty nice course in my area. Just looking forward to actually getting to play a little golf with the buddies tomorrow, it seems like it has been forever since I've stepped on to a course. The last time I've been out on the course it was October.

Re: First round of the new year.
I'm jealous. Hope you have a good round.
Up here on the frozen tundra we still have about 1 1/2 months to wait.

Re: First round of the new year.
We're going to brave the elements Sunday. Will probably be in the mid-50s at 8:24, making it's way to around 70 by noon. BRRRRRR! Have to break out my cold weather shorts!

They're sayin' it might snow here for the next few days. Joy. I did get to the range a few days ago. Things are looking up. -JP

I played clear into November and that was about it. When the temps get down into the 40's, the ball doesn't travel as far and with the breezes it's just plain uncomfortable. With all the damp weather we've had around here, the courses would be soggy and I just don't dig any of that. I have played in winters past when there was snow in the bunkers (an interesting shot, by the way), but to me, golf is a shirtsleeve game. On a warm-ish day, I feel that I can do more good for myself by going to the range and hitting some balls. If you enjoy winter golf, that's great. But it's just not my cup of tea. And it isn't a "getting older" thing either. I've always felt this way. Even last century when I was in my teens and twenties, I never got into the idea of playing at this time of year. Although I do remember a nice quiet round I played a couple of years ago on New Year's Day out at Long Island National; I was the only living soul on that course. The temps were in the 50's, with no wind at all. Great day! -JP

Re: First round of the new year.
There are aspects to winter golf that I enjoy - fewer people out there and no bees. If truth be told, it's the latter that makes the most difference for me. I spend the Spring, Summer and Autumn in a constant state of "bee alert", but in the Winter - that anxiety isn't there and I can relax on the course in a way that I can't do the rest of the year.

Re: First round of the new year.
Just miserable here. Highs in the teens the next couple of days, light snow every couple of days and nothing > 32* in the 10 day forecast. Mid-March, if we're lucky the way it's been going.

Re: First round of the new year.
We started at 9AM and it was a little cool and breezy, temps were in the low 40's, but it was a beautiful day. The day was very enjoyable overall. My game as expected had quite a bit of rust but I did hit some good shots.
This day has just wetted my appetite for the days to come. |

We have had a pretty mild winter so far, have only lost 3-4 saturdays due to bad weather, heres hoping that it continues like this until spring.
