Golf addiction and the internet

Sitting here in front of my computer on a beautiful Sunday early afternoon, trying to catch up on some work but failing miserably, I find myself dwelling on golf. If I can get some work done, I might be able to go play after 3pm when the rates drop. But I find myself distracted. So of course I visit here, read the posts, etc. Once I'm done with the new posts, then what? Well, too often I start thinking about what I need to be able to play better.

Now in my heart and that small rational part of my mind, I know I probably need lessons more than anything else. But you can't order lessons online, at least not where someone can watch you swing and then give instant feedback. Anyway, perhaps I can find improvement elsewhere! So I start "surfing" the golf equipment sites (yes, Diane, "surfing" is a manly version of shopping!).

Now I know if there was no internet, no online shopping, etc. my compunction to find good deals on balls and equipment would not be as strong, perhaps non-existent. If I had to drive to the various golf stores, sporting goods dealers, box stores, etc. looking for the stuff I crave, I'd soon lose interest and do what most guys do when it comes to "physical" shopping - buy what I want at the first place I find it.

But thanks to the wonders of digital technology, I can look at that driver, that set of wedges, that putter, those new golf balls, the cart bag with refrigerated cooler and foot massager, the rain shirt that keeps the rain out but lets the sweat escape, etc. If I'm torn between two or more similar items, I can look up reviews and ratings from my peers, reading the good and the bad and becoming even more confused about which is the right one for me!

Then there are the emails. I get them from Rock Bottom Golf, Edwinn Watts, Callaway, Bridgestone, Cobra, Bang Golf, 5 local courses, the local discount golf card, and if Christian starts a newsletter or email mailing list, I'll be getting them from Solid Rock Golf! And of course, even if I KNOW I'm probably never going to buy anything from them, I still open and read every message, and almost always follow the link to their latest offer.

So I guess I'm "addicted" to shopping online for golf stuff! "Shopping" being the operative word here, as rarely does "buying" come into the picture! Anyone else enjoy looking up the latest and greatest thing that promises to give you a better game? Are you constantly on the look out for the best prices on the "consumables" such as balls, gloves, tees, grips, etc.?

Re: Golf addiction and the internet

To be completely honest, I think I looked up 10 times the number of reviews for my irons than I did for my CAR! I am constantly looking at golf stuff online, especially at work when it is either too loud to study my upgrade training or if a few of the people I work with and I start talking about golf. You're definitely not alone, there.

And lately I have been trying to find better deals on golf balls and gloves. It is strange, I feel like I go through more golf balls now "naturally" than when I would just lose them. I'll play a ball for about 2-3 rounds and then set it aside to build up a shag bag and I always use a brand new ball for tournaments. And with the year round heat and humidity here, I am buying new gloves almost every 2 weeks.

Get those CDCs done young man! Once you have your 5-level, then you can goof off! (If your meteorology CDCs are anything like the aircraft armament or avionics courses I had, I feel your pain!)

Have you checked RockBottomGolf.com - Discount Golf Clubs, New Golf Clubs and Equipment from TaylorMade, Adams Golf, Mizuno, Tommy Armour, Ram, Hippo, Wilson, Nike, Bag Boy and Ogio. and their sister site RockBottomGolfBalls.com - Discount Golf Balls & Golf Accessories - Titleist, Callaway, Bridgestone, Maxfli, Nike, Wilson, Slazenger, Dunlop, Top-Flite & More! They have some good glove deals with their 3-packs.

The CDCs are 6 volumes, broken into 2 sets. I already tested on the 1st set and will be testing the 2nd next month. But as of right now, I am studying the PDG (PFE) for "BTZ". Man, that thing is boooooooooooooring!
