Frustrated and a little nutty...

Wrote this last Sunday...things have turned for me (thankfully) but thought that this was still worthwhile if for nothing else but to show what a golf basket case I am ...

Frustrated…
I had a lesson yesterday to address the issues I am having…namely as discovered in the lesson I have not been getting a good wrist cock at the top and this has caused distance loss, an overly shallow swing, the cruddy contact that I have been experiencing and inability to control distance with the short irons and wedges…
Worked it out on the range with the instructor, and by the end of the session was absolutely striping them, even when doing his challenge drill which avoids single club “grooving”…had me hitting a 5 iron to a target (no target green at that distance so just dropping it in between two objects about 15 yards apart down the driving range) then landing on the 100 yard target green, then finally on the 50 yard target green…running the cycles took 4 balls with the misses being to the 50 yd target (Rome wasn’t rebuilt in a day)…the main focus of the lesson was with the 8 and 9 irons, my primary approach irons and the ones that have been giving me fits and blowing up my scores…left the range feeling pretty good about things…

Played today and experienced the usual post lesson letdown…it takes awhile to practice new things and actually have them translate to the course, and I was full of swing thoughts and was tinkering the whole day…I didn’t once hit an iron or wedge with the good feelings of balance, rhythm and flush contact as I had been the day before and while being realistic in understanding that time is required to get these things into my swing, it is still frustrating especially when I drove the ball as I did today…I had 9 of 11 fairways for 14 holes and of those 14 holes I had clear looks at the green on ten of the approach shots from either the tee box on par 3s or the center of the fairway on the rest…I only managed 4 gir…the round looked like this:
150 cof(center of fairway)…miss
195 tb (tee box)…gir
125 cof…miss
105 cof…gir but really a miss as I had an 80-90 foot putt
150 cof…miss
120…gir
160 tb…miss
155 cof…hit (3rd shot par 4)
145 punch fade from under trees around a bend uphill but still in the fairway…miss (imagine that)
100 cof…gir
145 tb…miss
180…hit (drop from tee shot into water hazard)
120 cof…miss
110 cof…miss

I still have the niggle in my forearm/elbow which I feel with the full wrist cock (think that’s the reason I have been laying off of it), and I can see that my long irons and hybrid swing is working which I think has a lot to do with it being a flatter swing and doesn’t bother the arm as much, but as you can see from the amount that I have written I am super frustrated at the moment and finding it tough to enjoy the game when I can’t hit a green from lies that are as good as it gets with a wedge or 9 iron in my hand…

… and my putting is putrid at the moment, but that is for a different thread…

Re: Frustrated and a little nutty...

I tried to warn you about not letting the arm heal. Now you're letting it creep into all your thoughts.

If every team could be as good as OU they would still not be equal.

Geaux Mizzou Tigers, beat Arkansas. That will show those want to be imposters
