Re: What did you shoot today?
Shot a 39 in our after-work 9-hole league. First hole, a par 5 around 485 yds., I was on in two, facing a 10' eagle putt - pushed it 2" to the right of the cup. Round included a double bogey 6 on a par 4 as I attempted to punch out of the woods through a 2' opening - bad choice! LOL
Considering I had a number of putts under 10' that never got close, it was a very encouraging round. I did wrench my back a bit on one 165 yard par 3. I hit a GREAT 6 iron to within 8' of the cup and felt my back "give" a bit. It was sore the rest of the round but didn't affect my ball striking at all. In hindsight it could have affected my putting as it did hurt as I took my putting stance.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played yesterday by myself and just jumped around, because it was fairly crowded. I played a few holes with an older gentleman .. and that was nice. Everyone was letting me play thorugh but that got to be a pain after awhile so I just started jumping around to whatever holes were clear. Played 18-20 holes at a few under under bogey golf. Had 2 birdies, one was a tap-in after just missing a 20 footer for eagle. We haven't had any rain for a while and conditions are really dry.... love that roll off of the tee. The eagle try was on a 500 yarder, a dogleg right with water at the corner. I never try to cut it , but I had the wind with me so I did yesterday and wound up 200 out. I punched a 5-wood to the front and missed the eagle an inch left... oh well, tap-in birds are nice , too.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Shot 129 today with 48 putts (44,16-45,17-40,15). I was pretty consistent, but in an ugly way the first 2 nines. I hit 0 GIR on the front, and 3 GIR on the back. On the holes I didn't hit the green, I was constantly right around the green needing a simple up and down for par, but I would hit a bad chip and 2 putt for bogey. 1 par, 1 double, and 7 bogeys on the front, 2 doubles and 3 pars on the back. If I could have gotten up and down on half of those holes rather than just 1-15, I would be looking at 3 rounds of low 40's.
On the back, I made a few simple stance/swing changes. I narrowed my stance, aimed a little more left than usual, and made sure I shifted my weight to the right, and swung harder on my driver, and a little smoother with the irons. I don't know if these are good things to be doing, but it worked. I started hitting some of the longest and straightest drives I ever have ("measured" 1 at 282 steps, I know, not exactly accurate, but it was 3 yards from a creek I had never been within 40 yards of before), some of the most accurate irons, and I end up shooting a personal best +4 40 on the back. Was just +1 through 6 and came to an easy par 5, getting cocky and thinking I could get back to even through 7, but ended up missing a 2-3 footer and got a double, then bogied the next.

On his advice, I changed from striking the ground with the leading edge of my irons to striking the ground with the sole. The matches after that point last year went 24-17-13 to Pistol (44%-31%-24%), which is pretty close to this year's numbers. So, based on that, I guess the answer is I have played a bit better - it was always close, but I guess I have narrowed his edge - but he does still have the edge.

Re: What did you shoot today?
89 on a par 72 (71.7/129; 6511 yds). For posting purposes, it'll be an 88 because I had an 8 on one hole and for ESC, I'm not allowed anything higher than 7.
Had the lowest score in our foursome, but the guy who shot 96 won more moolah in the skins game because he won two holes that had a lot of carry-overs riding on them. No great shots, but I had a sandy, which was fun. Overall, pleased to be in the 80s (usually) so far this year.

That's what I love about skins. You can be having the lousiest round ever and then birdie 18 and walk off w/ all of the cash. ![]() |

Re: What did you shoot today?
Yeah, skins is a fun game. The four of us who played today usually are pretty evenly matched. Lots of no-blood holes. We played $5 entry fee, then each hole worth $1, except for the 9th and 18th (which were worth $2 each). We hadn't figured out what to do about any un-won skins after 18 holes. Fortunately, someone (not me, darn it) won the last hole outright.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played a nice little private course yesterday: Jacaranda West Country Club
Playing the blue tees it's a par 72, 69.9 rating and a 123 slope. We started on the back nine, and I was only +6 after 8 holes. Then suddenly I came apart on the par 5 18th. I've played there 3 times before, each time getting better (bogey, par, birdie), so I expected to do well. No such luck. The only good shot I hit was when my drive ended up behind a large oak and I had to punch out - the punch out was right where I wanted it! I then topped my third shot, which put my behind some more overhanging trees so I couldn't go for the green. I was right near the edge of a pond I had to cross, and tried to skip it across. It skipped, made it halfway up the other bank, hit the trunk of a small oak that couldn't have been as big around as a golf ball, and bounced backwards into the pond! I was able to drop so that I wasn't under the branches again, and this time hit my shot to far right, over the green, and into another pond! I ended up 6 over on the HOLE that when I teed up on I was only 6 over total! So I ended up 12 over coming in, at 48. Stopped and refilled on water (man, was it hot!) then headed for numbers 1-9. I bogied the first, birdied the second, bogied the third, parred the fourth. Then I got a call from my wife. She'd had a car accident, probably totalling out our 1995 Ford Windstar van (which wasn't worth a whole lot, so just the airbags will probably total it!). She was unhurt, as was the other driver, so I called my daughter to go pick her up. Now I have that on my mind! Finish out that side +8, with a couple of lipped out par putts and an OB drive on the last hole (hooked it OB - I almost NEVER hit a hook!). Anyway, with one terrible blow up hole and then some bad news to deal with on the last 5 holes, I still carded a 92. Since I've been playing around a 25 HCP, I wasn't too disappointed. Tomorrow morning I'm playing one of the nicest courses (Heron Creek Golf & Country Club - North Port, Florida) with some of the finest practice facilities in the area (http://www.heron-creek.com/learningcenter.htm). I'm going to be there early and warm up well, then try to enjoy a great round of golf! If I can break 100 on this course and not lose more than 5 balls, I'll be ecstatic!

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played my Civil War round today (posted in that thread already)...went 38 on the front and 55 on the back...frontside was 8/9 girs, 3/7 fairways...backside was just that
...I blew one ob on the 11th, put one in the fairway bunker that has no view of the green anymore thanks to a big decorative tropical tree that is well overgrown (and not part of the original design I am sure!) Five over on that one hole made me as furious as you can imagine and I definetly let my temper get the best of me today...I stewed the rest of the day and couldn't bring myself back under control...started to overswing and couldn't stop that either...pretty rough...

Re: What did you shoot today?
Heron Creek Golf & Country Club - North Port, Florida
Look out for the gators. When I played it there were gators everywhere, including by the ladies tee on the ninth. The wus of a lady playing in our group chose to tee off from the guys tees on that one.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I woke up late, after only about 2 hours sleep, got dressed and made the 35 minute drive to the course, arriving 5 minutes before tee time (8:25am). We played the Oaks-Marsh combo and I started off pretty well (for me) on the Oaks, sitting only +9 after 8 holes. Then on the ninth, while we stood on the tee box for 10 minutes waiting for the group ahead of us to quit zig-zagging across the fairway about 200-250 yards out, I started to get hungry. I lost concentration and made some poor shot choices, ended up with a 10 on the par 5. So I shot 50, thinking I could still break 100 with a little food and concentration. Didn't want to lose time at the turn by stopping at the clubhouse for food, as we wanted to get ahead of the slowpokes ahead of us who had stopped. Proceeded to the Marsh course, and hit a great tee shot, and parred the hole. Beer cart met us at the next tee and all she had worth eating was a Snickers bar, which was good for a 3 hole sugar rush. Was +2 after 4 on that side. Then it hit me! The sugar wore off and the sun bore down, and I started getting tired. I was drinking plenty of water, but it was about 96°F with about 80% humidity, heat index around 105°+. When I was 120 yards out and left a fully hit PW 15 yards short, I knew I was losing it. When I put 3 balls into the water on the 17th hole (#8 on the Marsh course), I knew I was toast. Made it through the last two holes, put my clubs in the car and headed home - didn't even look at the scorecard to see what the damage was. I'm playing somewhere closer to home, later in the day, and on a little easier course for my next round!
