How does a team shoot 52 in a best-ball? That's insane...someone on the team had a birdie on every...except the two they eagled.

Between work and family commitments, and the fact that the next round of ties are coming up,this was the easiest and fairest way,and no he isnt really a friend, not now.

It isn't as hard as you'd think. Especially when you can buy string and mulligans and other things like that. Unfortunately, my group spent very little money so we had one string.

There is another team that usually plays in these events that is notorious for posting very low scores, in the mid 40's, actually. No one believes they're posting their actual scores, but the events are usually to raise money, so they try to keep it drama free.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played my second round in Tucson. Went to an executive course close to my house that plays to a par 62. I shot 7 over. It was short but fun. I did something I have never done before today. There is one par 4 just over 265 dogleg right. I set up with driver to hit a draw and see if I could reach the green. The club came out of my hands on the downswing! I hit the ball but the club flew about 30 yards in front of me. The ball was so far offline it went out of bounds. I was stunned...I have never had a club come loose before.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played today and seemed I am in the midst of a relapse...3 clubs short and dizzy...ought to have stayed home as the workday is ROUGH right about now...was 12 over for 9 holes, but much of that was due to lost balls in the rough...it has been raining so much lately the grounds crew has cut back on their maintainence schedule...therefore the course now has US Open rough coming right to the fairways, and the fairways are a little smaller, not cut back as much...they even cut walkways from the tee to the fairway it is so tall...anyway, my misses weren't bad, but a yard off the fairway and you kiss your ball goodbye...second 9 I only had time for 5 holes (spent the rest looking for balls on the front!) but played much better and went even for those 5...

One day it will come together...

Re: What did you shoot today?

Sometimes a change of venue is necessary... For about the last 7 months, I don't think I've played more than one round at any course other than my home course. As I've stated many times over, my home course has OB on all but 3 holes and water on all but 5 holes. Pulled up to the course the other day and a tournament was going on, so I drove over to the second nearest course, one I hadn't played in at least a couple of years. The rates there are lower and they are usually very busy; I got lucky and it wasn't terribly busy when I got there. This course is shorter than my home course, and the rating is just a smidge lower, but the slope for this one is a bit higer than my home course. Regardless, with no OB to worry about and fewer hazards (more trees), I shot 89. And I didn't really hit the ball well. Proves that playing my course helps prepare me better for other courses, especially ones with less OB...

That only applies if you didn't hit it in places that would've been OB or in hazards on your home course.

Pistol vs Mr Bogey Epic Battle Feb 25 2008 (Soft, still 70 degree day) Black tees 3600 yards Island View

Hole 1 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 2 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 3 par 4 Pistol 5, Mr Bogey 6 Pistol 1 up
Hole 4 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 Pistol 1 up

Hole 6 par 3 Pistol 3, Mr Bogey 3 Pistol 2 up
Hole 7 par 5 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 5 Pistol 3 up
Hole 8 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 Pistol 3 up, Mr B presses
Hole 9 par 4 Pistol 5, Mr Bogey 5 Pistol wins 3 up, press halved

Gross scores : Pistol 37(+1) Mr Bogey 40(+4) Pistol wins 1 USD

08 Match (bet) record: Pistol 11 Mr Bogey 0 Tied 3
Pistol has $18.00 lead

We take to the black tees for a change of pace, and it is LONG! Every tee is at the very back, some of the fairways have been aerated, and the ground is still pretty soft from all our rain of late. I hit a poor shot pitching to #3 that cost me a DB, and I had a really pitiful 3 putt at #8, but otherwise it was pretty much OK... just not near good enuff to contend with what Pistol is doing these days.

Exactamundo! Actually, would have been more accurate to say it gave me a great false sense of security that I'm not as bad as I continually think I am, which just ain't true....

Re: What did you shoot today?

Well I finally bounced back again today...felt a little weak and had some remnants of the sickness that has been lingering, and tendonitis is still making my right elbow creak, but all the same, my swing came back, almost back to full strength, and while I've been waiting to feel better, I've been spending time chipping and putting which has put that part of the game back on track...no brilliant shots today, just good all around play, very good putting and chipping, and regained control over my 3 wood...only 14 holes but I was 8 fairways, 5 gir, 20 putts, +3 which included two dropped shots over the first two holes (gotta get a warmup routine)...went to the range this afternoon to sharpen up my irons which I have neglected over the last two weeks and got those back on track, so things are looking up...

We can handle it most of the time, however when you feel it blowing you off balance at the top of your backswing, its really time to take the hint.

OFF THE SCHNEID!!!!!! Finally I play a round of golf in 2008, and Pistol has a bit of an off-round, and I manage win #1 of the new year. The squirmy hands w/the putter were gone at last and coupling a fair day of ball-striking with a fairly solid putter makes for a good round. Pistol was breaking in his new irons, but they were not the cause of his off day - he hit them pretty well and might have gained a half-club of distance - he simply wasn't quite "on" with his short game this day.

Mr. Bogey played real well today. Even if I was on my "A" game it would have been really difficult to get a win today. The wind was up and there weren't many birdies to be had. Even though I lost 2.50, it was nice to see Mr. B play a good round. He's really been struggling with consistancy for the past couple months. Our next round is scheduled for Monday where the weather is projected to be in the mid 70's. Oh, ya gotta love the south.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I think the new swing is finally getting grooved!! Saturday was probably my best ball striking day in 3 years, and it was best down the stretch (1 under last 6 holes) on a course I had not played in at least 5 years. Although I only shot 79, I am so excited about the prospects. I had at least 6 putts dead in the throat of the cup a couple of inches short.

I guess I should mention that in desperation about a month ago I took a lesson from my pro, and in an hour and a half he: strengthened my weak left hand; put my middle and ring fingers of my right hand back on the club; fixed my closed alignment; pointed out I was not turning my hips at all; I was coming over the top; and worked on a flying elbow. It takes a while to groove that many changes!

Re: What did you shoot today?

50 on the front nine at Southridge. Not feeling too hot again today, but did a little better than last time out. Some of my drives were bad, but had some nice 2nd shots to compensate. Irons still off a bit at times. I really think the pain has caused some change in my swing. Almost quit early as my husband's blood sugar was acting up and he wasn't feeling all that great either. Beautiful weather today, though!
