Re: What did you shoot today?

Didn't hit the ball particularly well for the most part, but had a few good shots today. All in all I'm pleased with my 41. Had pars on 6-8 after a double bogey on 5, and birdied 9 after nearly chipping in for eagle from the fringe. Putting was pretty good today, but my chipping was less than stellar.

It is funny how a shot early in the round can end up being the one that is the difference in a match. Although our scoring wasn't great, I think we both walked away feeling we hit the ball pretty well today, but a set of tough pin placements made scoring a challenge. After we both chopped up the fourth hole tee to green, we both missed 10-12 footers for par and both let them sneak a little too long. Pistol made his bogey from 4 feet, but from about 3 slick feet above the hole I hit mine thru the break, and actually had to make about a 7 footer to keep from 4 putting. That innocent little miss was the stroke I could never overcome as the match progressed.

Re: What did you shoot today?

The putter was just not working today. Normal 3 footers were just not finding the hole. I had several putts that burned the edges and lipped out. I managed a 44 on the front. The second nine my game improved slightly and I was able to get up and down a few more times and I hit a few more greens. I shot a 40 on the back. This is the first time in a while that a ugly thought entered my head, try a new putter. I know it's not the putter it's the "puttee". There's always tomorrow.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played my Tuesday round and just couldn't get anything going. I missed so many short makeable putts, it wasn't even funny. I know I'm a bogey golfer and I did have 3 pars and 13 bogeys, but the misses (and missed greens) were highly frustrating. And of course added in 2 big numbers as usual to round out a day that was filled with woulda coulda shoulda...

Mr. Bogey and I decided to play the Black (back) tees again to really test our games. Our first hole on the pine is a long 420 uphill par 4. We both hit good drives but had to hit woods into the green. We knew from that point it was going to be a long day. Highlights of the round were: Mr. Bogey drains a 50 foot putt on the 3rd hole for a birdie. I return the favor with a 30 footer on the 6th for a bird of my own. We get to the seventh all square an Mr. B makes a tricky 8 foot down hill putt to go one up. We both par the 8th and go into the 9th with Mr. B being 1 up. We both hit drives down the middle and have 155-160 left. I hit my approach 20 feet from the hole but just off the right edge of the green. Mr. B pulls his shot and has a down hill 50 footer. Mr. B putts to with 4 feet and now the pressure is all on me. I choose to chip with a 60 degree with the pin out. I nip it just right and it take a couple hops on the green and into the cup it goes. Mr. B just shakes his head thinking what can I do to beat this guy. All in all, shooting a 37 on that 9 from the back tees is a pretty good score.

I could bend his putter, but, shoot, it's already bent . Maybe Carl (Bill Murray) has the answer....

Re: What did you shoot today?

At the turn of today's round I went to my cart shed and switched out putters. My old odyssey white hot #4 just wasn't getting the job done. I went with a odyssey #7xg and my round took on new life. I finished the round with an 81, I had 3 birdies on the back along with a round killing triple bogey on that same long par 4 I eagled a few days ago.

I decided to play another 18 and this round was much better and I finished with a 76. The putter may be all in my head, but i started making a lot more putts.

I just bought the #7 XG myself. I have always played a mallet head putter and much prefer those because of the longer alignment marks and the head weight. I have just never putted well with a putter that was short front to back.

This putter has just been moved up to my second favorite club in the bag and may become the #1 before very long. Today I shot my personal best of 73. My putter was red hot and I played every hole well except for a par 3 that has water in front. The water shouldn't even come into play but I dug my 5 iron into the ground. Wound up with a 5 on the par 3, but I followed it up with two birdies.

The only bad thing about the day was that my team lost our four ball match. Normally my 73 would be pretty solid but one of my opponents put up a 68.

Pistol starts like a house afire, going 3 under thru 6 holes, featuring a wonderful chip-in on the 4th where he was behind a bunker, pitching to a short side pin 8 ft from the fringe with the green sloping away and wind on his back. I ground my way back into the match and by birdieing all 4 par 5 holes took a small edge to the 18th, where neither of us had a good hole and each had a distasteful bogey finish to a decent round.

Re: What did you shoot today?

The new xg #7 lost it's new golden touch. I played 36 holes today. I followed up my personal best of 73 with an 86 and a 82. I wasn't unhappy with the 82, but I was very displeased with the 86. I just couldn't get anything going. The course was playing a little longer than usual today after the rain yesterday.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I'm nearing that "I going to quit playing this game" point...just frustrated but still playing alot...can't seem to get things on track...this week I shot a +4 followed by a +21, +5 followed by a +20...everything feels like an experiment...course pro gave me a lesson that was themed "back to basics"...so that's where I'm at right now...

Re: What did you shoot today?

Had time for only 9 holes. Shot 43 (+7) on my home course's back nine, which for me is tougher than the front nine. Birdied my nemesis hole, then doubled the next two. Saved par with a 10-footer at the last. Went home content. Need to work on driver.

Played Randolph North this morning and was just cruising til I hit 18, two in the water left me with a triple that just ruined a good card. 82....was the final tally.

Ouch! That just sounds so familiar with my game. I hate those card wrecking holes and I seem to have at least one every round.

Re: What did you shoot today?

The putter and chipping strokes were very good today. I shot a 38 on the front. Made a double on hole 10 to start off the back nine and finished with a 38. A chip in birdie on hole 17 helped the scorecard.

I am very pleased with the way I'm playing the game right now. The double on hole 10 was made because of a poor decision. I tried to chip off a thin lie with my 56 and bladed it. My iron play isn't great but it's satisfactory. I'll take my 76 I shot today and be very happy.
