Re: What did you shoot today?

Played a new course today...Timber Creek. I shot a 95 (42/53) and had a good time with a guy I got paired up with. I was playing great until the last 4 holes when...apparently...I ran out of gas. I played the last 4 holes at 12 over (double, quad, trip, trip). Otherwise, it was a great round and I really enjoyed it.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Highest score of the year: 95 (on my home course, in a Men's League event). After ten holes, I'd finally gotten to 1 under fives, then went 8-7-7. If I'd just gone 5-5-5 there, I'd have finished in the money for my flight with an 88. Fairway woods... need to work on fairway woods.

It's always sumpin'.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Shot 87 at San Ignacio Golf Club. It was ugly. They have GPS and it shows how far behind you are against their expected pace. We got as far as 23 minutes behind before we got to the 6th hole. At the 5th hole, we had 3 groups waiting on the tee. I never got into any kind of rhythm at all.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Monday July 21, 2008

For some reason I was committed to overswinging and underclubbing today…predictable results in spots, but once I recognized what I was doing I settled down and started playing better…quite well actually despite not being as on with the irons as I was yesterday, the approaches that I did hit close I was able to put in the hole thanks to putting all the way through the final round of the Open in my living room…made some bad mistakes and took two double bogeys, so the day was a little bit of a rollercoaster, but with good results…I missed the green from the center of the fairway 6 times from 90-140 yards…no excuse for that other than the club felt a little funny in my hands today (maybe I just wanted to play from around the green like the pros did all weekend…)…chipping was good and got up and down 5/6 of those misses including one from a bunker (had sand in it though…)…driving was good in spots, but still shaky…still trying to hit it too hard, which when I works out is amazing, but otherwise not so great…hit a drive 40 yards past my usual mark on one hole to the center of the fairway and into the trees on the next driver hole…the give and take of golf…one day I’ll learn to use my head, but it won’t be as fun…just noticed that I had a string of 6 holes with one putts…missing greens helps out on that but I did make some good ones today…I don’t keep track of stats like that but better than yesterday for sure…

8/11 fairways, 6 gir, 21 putts…3 birdies…2 doubles…+4 for 15 holes…

Thursday July 24, 2008
Played today and was poor…really poor…I took two days off since last playing on Monday because my left hip is strained and now locked up, and have generally been feeling a little run down…anyhow, I wasn’t expecting much, and I got less today…had some good shots, but typical of the day I was 2/3 out of the sand with one to 2 ft and the other to 4 ft, but bladed the third over the green…striped a few drives as pretty as could be, right down the pipe and hit them so well I ran them through the dogleg for lost ball penalties…I went to the practice green after the round and hit some little pitches…I could have hit them better with a branch…chunks, bladed balls and poor distance and direction control…my balls were all over the green…walking out the Marketing director stopped me and gave me a cheery good morning and asked if I was sleepy…I’ll just call today a bad dream; I just didn’t have it at all, and unlike a few months ago, couldn’t figure out how to get around the course despite not having it…not a good progression…
6/11 fairways, 4 gir, 26 putts…1 birdie…15 holes…+16…

Friday July 25, 2008

Was a scrambling and grinding day today…my hips are still stiff, so I played a fade all day, giving them a little head start, which isn’t my preferred shape and threw off my irons somewhat…making good contact, just not controlling the ball too well… unlike yesterday, I figured out a way around the course despite my bad swing du jour…got up and down 9 times including 4/5 from the sand…the one I missed was off a hardpan downslope lie in the back of a bunker with just about no sand (where’s that thread!?!?!? ) …good day at the beach with three of the conversions having putts of 3ft, 1.5 ft and a footstep…been working on expanding my shot selection from around the greens and it paid off today…was like JP once said, it was like throwing a ball underhanded to the hole…driver feel that I stumbled on yesterday eluded me, and after three tries it was relegated in favor of the 3 wood since I did recreate the feeling from yesterday with that club and was squarely pounding it around 250 (not carry, where it ended up) off the tee pretty accurately (including on the uphill par 4 that the far edge of the dogleg is at 245…dead on line and right through the fairway into the trees ) …tried out a new putting grip that I have been fooling around with in the living room…reverse overlap with the thumb of the left hand pressing directly along the lifeline in the palm of the right hand with the elbows slightly chicken winged (thanks Stan Utley)…was good, will stick with it for awhile, and I made some good putts…stumbled on something else borne out of short game practice…how to hold the hands and ball position to create a large amount of backspin with knockdown shots…probably had something to do with hitting a fade as well and holding off on the release…whatever, I spun back an 8 and 9 iron that actually hit a green which I don’t normally do, and both benefitted the shot which seems to never happen when I spin it back…will be fun to try this on a day when I am hitting irons well…felt pretty good stepping off the course today considering my so so physical state and iffy swing today; made do with what I had and ran the last 9 holes at even par which is encouraging…a day like today reinforces the value of a short game because I sure wasn’t hitting greens today…
9/12 fairways, 4 gir, 22 putts…1 birdie, +4 for 16 holes…

Sunday July 27, 2008

Had a pretty good day today…still struggling with the driver but somehow my three wood has taken on a new life and I am smacking it pretty true and longer than I have ever hit it…I still tried to force the driver, but by the 10th hole I left it in the bag, tired of digging shots out of the woods…I reached a greenside bunker on a 525 yd par 5 with two three wood shots, and was more of the same all day…hope it sticks…irons were a little iffy, need some rangework to straighten them out…short game wasn’t great either, missed a few up and downs, but on the whole played pretty well…tried 3 different putting grips over the course of the round and settled on one over the last 6 holes that brought two birdies…anyway, had a good time today and actually finished 18…
10/13 fairways…8 gir…31 putts…2 birdies…+5 for 18 holes…39/36…75.

TW, I played there 3 weeks ago and really enjoyed it immensely. I was really in a zone that day and shot a 74. Greens and fairways were outstanding. We played the two 9's that were to the left (I think the Creek and the Timbers). The Timbers was definitely the harder 9. Thought it was really worth the drive down.

Being the eternal smart alec, I asked the starter, "Where's the first tee, and what's the course record?" Loved his response..."there's the first tee" and pointed one way, "and there's the course record holder from the regular men's tees" and pointed the the sweet young lady that loaded our clubs on the cart. Turns out she just graduated from HS recently, signed to play D1 golf this fall for a major university, and not long ago shot a 64 from the regular men's tees at Timber Creek. I thought that was WAY cool!

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played at Arizona National Sunday and it was in beautiful shape. I wish I had given myself a chance to play out of the fairways, it might have been a good day. Instead, I switched clubs the night before and that was a terrible error. I have been playing the TA blades but decided to put the Titleists MB's in the bag. When will I learn... The Titleists set up totally different and you have to guard against a hook with them all the time. I spent the first half of the round playing out of the right rough and then overcompensated enough to play out of the left rough for the last half. I ended with an 88 and it felt like 188. I am gonna put my TA's back in the bag and not take them out again.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I played my home course today and shot a really nice 36 on the front. The back was a different story. A double bogey on the last hole made ended my back nine with a 42. On hole 18 I was standing in the middle of the fairway with 158 to the center. That's a 6 iron for me, I proceed to absolutely nuke my 6 iron 20 yards over the green. I ended with a 78. I'm happy with the score, but it should have been so much better.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Tuesday July 29, 2008
Played alright but not great today…kinda tired, working off 7 hours sleep over the last two days, but not so much that I would consider staying away from the course…hit 3 wood great again today, and despite wanting to leave the driver at home, I brought it anyway and hit a couple of nice shots with it as well…struggled with my irons and hybrids and realized why towards the end of the round…I had been working on keeping my left wrist flat at the top over the last few weeks, and had seen my GIR’s rise…the last few rounds I’d forgotten about that and it had led to indifferent ball striking…immediately after focusing on this again I started to strike much more crisply and get some birdie chances…still fooling around with my putting grip, but made some tough ones, and didn’t miss any that I should make…1/2 out of the sand, getting the feel for my new wedge a little more every time out…in all pretty good, but the first four holes that I went +4 before waking up hurt my score for the day…
9/10 fairways, 6 gir, 25 putts…1 birdie…14 holes…1st 9holes +6…2nd 5holes even par…+6 total…

Re: What did you shoot today?

I was able to squeeze 18 in tonight and shot a bittersweet 44-47=91. I call it bittersweet because I had a bit of the pulls off the tee which ended up seeing me give away six strokes, but my chipping was on and my putting was a lot better than it had been the last two rounds (30 putts). My ball striking minus the eight or so pulls was brilliant tonight though. I was very pleased with it, so I really feel I should've gone lower, but alas I was really looking (as you may know from my putting woes thread) to get my short game back in order and I took a step in the right direction that way, so all in all it was a decent night.

Re: What did you shoot today?

It was a night and day round. The first nine was the day with a 38 highlighted with a chip in birdie on hole 6. The second nine was the night with a season high 48. It was extremely hot and the humidity was very high too. I was just zapped after the first nine. My round was going pretty bad already so I tried to hit a ball out of a water hazzard. It was sitting mostly out of the water, when I hit the ball it went straight up about 4 feet and straight back down. I then took the drop and made a double bogey.

What a terrible scoring round.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played San Ignacio this afternoon. Par 71 and I shot 83...not great. Lost a ball on the last hole very oddly. We all saw it go straight down the middle of the fairway over the crest of the hill. The fairway was probably 40 yards wide at this point. When we got down there both my playing companions balls were in the fairway on the same line as mine...but mine was missing???? That cost a couple of strokes.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played 36 holes today, shot a 80 and a 81. Both rounds were highlighted by birdies on hole 9 on both 18's. It was a great time today, and I savored every moment of the outing since it will be my last for a week.

Until today. 98, also on my home course. This time the three disaster holes (8, 8, and 9) did not occur in a row; they got me when I wasn't expecting them. Fortunately, ESC allows me no more than a 7 on any hole, so for posting purposes, it was a 94. Alright!

Men's League club championship next weekend (Sat & Sun). My game has picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.

Well after these scores I had 3 bad holes. Dbl bogey on #1 Par 4, made an 8 on par 4 #5 and Dbl bogey par 5 #7. Final tally 45. I did win $40 on accumulative par 3's with a 9. Went bogey, par, birdey.
All 3 drives were left and in trouble with the NEW XLS/YS-7+. Needless to say it is gone and traded for an Adams Insight XTD Pro 9.5*

Re: What did you shoot today?

Posted an 88 at Tucson National and was not upset with it. I was sitting at 38 after 8 on the front when one errant shot landed short of the green in some 8" rough, it took me 5 strokes to get it out and I ended up with a 10 on the 9th. Instead of letting it ruin my round, I determined to see how many I could get back on the inward 9. I shot 40 to keep me under 90. I swear I have never seen rough like this. particularly on the front slope of a green. Both my playing companions dropped a ball in there just to try it out and neither one could move it more than a few feet...just brutal. I might have been better off to declare an unplayable lie, but dropping it within two club lengths would have netted me the same lie... oh, well, rub of the green, I hit it in there, I had to hit it out.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Sunday August 3, 2008
So I played the last two days and was working on some things…mainly freeing up my driver and three wood swing with a more upright plane…was working for the most part but got some bad results as well…did pick up back to back birdies on the 16th and 17th yesterday before three putting the green on the 18th…also working on weakening my left arm position which is a tough one too…played alright yesterday but scored really well due to a sharp short game, and today was a stroke better with much cleaner ballstriking…I still feel I’m not putting well and will spend some time on that, my irons are good now with my new left arm position, but my woods come and go and I have a little bit of a hit and hope approach to them which isn’t good…but overall I’m pretty happy with how things are right now, had quite a few birdie chances over the last couple of days, even made some, and seem to be on a generally positive trend…I hit a chip for eagle with my 9iron that looked in all the way but hit the stick to settle 2 inches out on the lip, this following a chip on the previous hole from 45feet that ended on the lip…my new club for around the greens…just ned to work on my consistency in setup for teed driver and 3wood off the deck as those are the two shots that are the most troubling in terms of consistency…
Saturday
Can’t remember fairways, 8 gir, 38/37…three birdies …75.
Sunday
