Sounds like your game is on the way back. Glad the lightning missed you! And send some of that rain up here, would ya? We're about 5" behind our seasonal norm.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I went out and shot a 94 yesterday. The front nine was a bit rough but I really started to get into a groove on the back nine. I am going out again tomorrow so hopefully I will be able to take the back nine groove and break into the 80's finally.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Had a personal best today at Kearney Hill from the blue tees. Shot -7, 65 and it really was another "coulda shoulda" day as bad as that sounds after a 65. Missed two 4 foot birdie putts, one 8 foot eagle putt, and had a three putt bogey from 8 feet that never should have happened.

I did hole one out from the fairway from 60 yards for eagle though which made up for some of the misses. I also eagled the 18th.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played Del Lago on Saturday for the first time. What a nice course. I managed to scrape together an 82 even though I wasn't having the best day off the tee.

I played today at Canoa Hills and just embarrassed myself with a 101 I can't even remember the last time I shot into 3 digits. It was awful, no it was worse than that. I couldn't hit driver, so I switched to 3 wood and promptly put that in the desert as well. Really didn't matter because if I did catch a fairway, I managed to mishit my irons so badly that I spent the entire day trying to hit a miracle chip. That wasn't working either because I managed to hit a couple of "hosel rockets" and spent the rest of the round praying not to do it again. My putting was good....I got lots of practice since it was taking me 3 putts on almost every green. Visions of Ian Baker-Finch were dancing in my head on the way home.

Pistol vs Mr Bogey Epic Battle August 26 2008 (Rainy 80 degree day) White tees 3300 yards Pine View

Hole 1 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 2 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 3 par 5 Pistol 5, Mr Bogey 4 Mr B 1 up
Hole 4 par 3 Pistol 3, Mr Bogey 3 Mr B 1 up

Hole 9 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 5 Pistol wins 3 up & wins press

Gross scores : Pistol 35(-1) Mr Bogey 38(+2) Pistol wins 2 USD

08 Match (bet) record: Pistol 39 Mr Bogey 14 Tied 6
Pistol has $39.50 lead

We slog around a wet course and the rain joins us on the 3rd green. Actually both of us played rather well through the slop, until at the 8th tee I wear my damp glove one swing too many and slip my 6 iron tee shot on the par 4 right into the lake. With the press going on the 9th, Pistol hits a nice approach in leaving a tricky 18 footer for birdie. From 105 I hit SW well and admire its flight just right of the front pin, until it lands just over the bunker and spins back in. BOGEY = LOSS!

Re: What did you shoot today?

Did well tonite... played the front nine (par 36) and shot 39. Made 6 pars, 2 bogies, one double, but sank 3 15-20 foot breaking putts (6-12 inches of break) and lipped 2 others. Putting well, getting to the green is the problem 3 pars were 10-30 yard chips to within 3 feet with my 52-degree wedge. Perfect weather too....went out around 6:30pm ...was around 80 degrees.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played a nice Country Club outside of Philly this afternoon. Joined my boss (head pro where I work) our teaching pro, and his buddy (who is likewise a teaching pro).

I played horrible starting out. I was +7 after 7 holes of play, and if I could've found a rock to crawl underneath, I would've hidden there. Then one of my opponents made a quirky remark, of which I happened to hear from a distance.... something to the effect of, "maybe we should've invited so-and-so... the match would be more fair and it would be more fun."

Now we're all friends.... None of us are playing for an exemption in the Douche Bag Open this week on the PGA schedule. There were some significant wagers going on within the match, and losing a chunk of cash was humiliating enough. But I don't take too kindly to being labled the odd man out, particularly from an opponent. I didn't need to be reminded that I was slapping it around pretty good.

I had just taken a double bogey on the 7th hole, a par5 at that, lying two from no more than 70 yards away from the green. Then I overheard the comment.

I then answered my critics.

Birdied the 8th. Birdied the 9th. Birdied the 10th. Birdied the 11th. Birdied the 12th. Parred the 13th, Birdied the 14th, parred the 15th. Birdied the 16th. Parred the 17th, and parred the 18th, shooting -5 on the back.

Shot 41 going out, shot 31 coming in. Won 10 skins. Won the team match. Won 6 presses. Won the low medalist. Shot a career-best 9-hole score.

There are fewer things in life more enjoyable than watching a couple of pros open their wallets after a round because they made the mistake of opening their mouths.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Summer is quickly drawing to a close, and I'm still on my 3 week plus, post burn-out golf sabbatical. I finally got the urge to play after work today..and wouldn't ya know it, I got out late and didn't have enough time. I'm hoping that the desire to play is still with me tomorrow, so I can go play a couple holes and see how it feels to hit a golf ball again.

Now that's a legendary round with the start you had. I doubt you had many more satisfying rounds than that.

I don't now, but when I used to wager on the golf course I would never bad mouth an opponent because I knew at any time they were apt to pull off a shot or get red hot, or I in turn could get cold as death.

Congrats PA on that back 9 nine.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Yesterday I went out with my 5 year old son. I wasn't expecting much and the hole placements hadn't changed since the club championship a few days ago. They were in extreme locations. I managed a 39 with my son in tow which is pretty good, nothing spectacular just a solid short game.

Great story! No doubt you've shot 72 before but sometimes it's not what you do....it's how you do it.

Being the shy, withdrawn, type that I am, I would've had to comment (as they were handing me their cash) "Maybe next time I'LL invite so and so. It may be a better match"

The money was nice, but the reward was watching these guys fold.... it's mighty easy hitting greens and two-putting for a comfy par when your opponent is looking at 25 footers to save face. But when you see your opponent suddenly hitting tee balls 20 yards past you, and sticking approach shots 12 feet from the hole, the momentum has a tendency to change very quickly. After the fourth birdie, I think I had their undivided attention.

We all rode together, so on the way home there wasn't much talk about the round. But when I dropped these guys off when we got back in town, I got my just reward. "It was fun watching you play that back nine today, dude. Impressive stuff."

Crazy game....

Geesh, I can only dream of that many birdies. Two in a round is career 'buy a round of drinks' time for me, lol, three and I'd have to have my scorecard plaque'd.

Trust me Bulls, this ain't typical PA PLAYA golf. My potential is much higher than +7 through 7 holes, but I also know that those rare stretches of unconscious playing are to be appreciated, not expected.

That's not bad considering the tour average for birdies a round is like 3.7? Somewhere around there I think... I'm too lazy to look it up.

They likely just have a little less bogey's than you each round.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played by myself today as the course was empty. I finished 18 holes in less than 2 hours. I shot a very nice 76 with matching 38's. 6 bogeys, 2 birdies and the rest pars. I only planned on 9 holes but since I was playing so well I finished the 18.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Nice going, PA PLAYA! Though not nearly as spectacular as your round, your story reminds me of a scramble tourney I was in a couple of years ago. We started off poorly, barely making par on the first 2 holes. On our third hole the group ahead was finishing teeing off as we pulled up, and had watched us for the last two holes. I heard one guy say,"Well, we ain't gotta worry about them!". That third hole was a par 5, and we eagled it - I ripped a drive down the middle, close to 300 yards, and another guy hit a beautiful 3wood onto the green, 5 feet from the pin from 240yards, just as the other guys were walking off the green. We parred or birdied the rest of the holes, and I won the long drive hole, my friend won closest to the pin, and we finished first in our flight. The group ahead of us finished third! We won some small prizes, but our biggest reward was beating that other team and coming together to play well.
