Re: What did you shoot today?

Played the same course today that I shot my 65 at. I can't complain with the end result as I shot a -1, 71 today. But, I might as well have putted with my wedge. I wouldn't have putted any worse and it might have been better? Amazing the difference a week makes but I still scored well without the putter so I'll take it.

When you're hitting the ball well, the pressure becomes greatest on the greens.

But not many guys can hold it together after a career round like you had. Well done! While you're obviously disheartened that you couldn't convert a few more birds, an under-par round following a career round is still impressive playing.

Keep up the great play!

Thanks! Well it's definitely true, the pressure becomes the greatest on the greens. When I see a pro have a career day and then come back with a 75 the next day I always say to myself: "how in the world does that happen?" Well, now I know how it happens. I put way to much pressure on myself on the greens today and that was the problem. For whatever reason I felt like if I didn't have another 65 day it would be failure and felt I had to make every putt and ended up making nothing.

Oh well. That's why I'm not getting paid to play this silly game.

One of the guys I play with up at my club has a son who is an unbelieveably talented golfer.... played college golf at Alabama, and has spent the last two years playing the Tar Heels tour down in the Carolina's. He's spent much of his summer working on his game at my club, and is giving Qschool a try this fall.

He shot 63 today at my club, setting a new course record.

Hard to believe that this guy will most likely never make it beyond the developmental tours. I think that kinda puts things in perspective for the rest of us.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played yesterday late morning, and shot a 99.

That isn't that great a score I know, but 3 of the last 4 times I've played, I've broken 100, which for me is very encouraging...I seen to finally be making some progress at least - in the four years I've been playing, I've almost always shot 100-110 (or worse), a handful of high 90s, and one "freak" (for me) 94.

I'm going to be a pretty happy guy I can finish out this season shooting in the high 90s....

Navy - It's a GREAT score for YOU and that's all that matters. Don't apologize for playing well. Congratulations!

And I've been doing it leaving the driver in the bag...maybe I should've have done that a long time ago! Seems like it does more harm than good, for me....yeah I can't hit it as far with my 3 wood, but at least the ball stays in the same zip code.

You've learned a lesson many golfers never learn. That's a plus too.

Yes, it really does put things into perspective. It's crazy to think just how good the guys on tour really are when you got a kid that plays college golf consistently shooting in the 60's and can't get off the bench in the pro game.

Re: What did you shoot today?

I went out early this morning and suprisingly the course was empty on a holiday. My ball striking was very poor outside the first hole, but my short game carried me for an 82. I made a 30 footer for birdie on the first hole. That was 30 footer was erased on hole 4 when I 3 putted the par 3 fourth. I only hit 3 gir today, had 27 putts, but I had a lot of close chips.

My iron play has really became worse over the past few weeks. I'm having trouble with alignment and I am pushing things terribly. I don't push my woods, but I still have problems with alignment.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Played Saturday at Del Lago and fell on my sword. After a 78 mid-week, I managed a stellar 92. Sunday, I went back to Canoa Hills where I had my 101 last Sunday and got an 82 out of it. It makes a huge difference if your driver is letting you play out of the fairway. The only club in my bag this week that was there last week is my driver. I changed irons, wedges, FW's and putter after the 101. I have the other set in detention until they act better.

A 19 shot improvement is huge! Way to go. Sometimes you just have to show your clubs who's boss before they perform for you.

Re: What did you shoot today?

After opening the tournament today with a dismal triple bogey on the very first hole, I played the remaining 17 holes at -5.

There once was a time in my life that I was satisfied with second place finishes. Now it's getting kinda old. I guess that's a good thing.

Evidently, putting my set of unruly clubs in detention while I made the other clubs watch had the desired effect. I played Fred Enke this afternoon and got in 27 before dark. I shot 42, 37, 37... by far the best I have played since I moved here. I figured out something in my swing that was preventing me getting the ball on line. I had gotten my set up out of whack and was having to manipulate the club to try and get the shot on line. I got my set up back to square and suddenly, I was hitting greens again.

All of a sudden, I could almost hear the click when my backswing got into the perfect position at the top. Then it was only a matter of swinging in tempo to hit it straight at the target. The "click" at the top feels like cocking the hammer on a good shotgun, you just know its has slipped into place. Hope I can keep this up, my confidence has been taking a beating lately.

Sounds like that could be been a career day? Most people would be saying "well this round is over" after the triple on the first hole. The fact that you rebound and still shoot -2 is pretty amazing.

That will do it every time. It's one of the easiest things to get out of whack and one of the hardest things (I think) to fix again once it's out of whack. You get used to standing one way (the wrong way) and any other way you stand feels so weird that you can't make yourself line up correct. Once your alignment is messed up, might as well say goodbye to the rest of your swing.

Re: What did you shoot today?

Pistol vs Mr Bogey Epic Battle Sep 3 2008 (Sweet 90 degree day) White tees 3300 yards Pine View

Hole 1 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 2 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 4 AS
Hole 3 par 5 Pistol 5, Mr Bogey 5 AS
Hole 4 par 3 Pistol 2, Mr Bogey 3 Pistol 1 up
Hole 5 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 3 AS
Hole 6 par 3 Pistol 3, Mr Bogey 3 AS
Hole 7 par 5 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 5 Pistol 1 up
Hole 8 par 4 Pistol 5, Mr Bogey 5 Pistol 1 up, Mr B presses
Hole 9 par 4 Pistol 4, Mr Bogey 3 AS, & Mr B wins press

Gross scores : Pistol 35(-1) Mr Bogey 35(-1) Mr B wins 1 USD

08 Match (bet) record: Pistol 41 Mr Bogey 15 Tied 6
Pistol has $41.00 lead

Another close one! Pistol takes the lead with a 50 foot bomb on #4, but I hit to 4 feet on the next to even it. Then at #7 Pistol rolls in another from 20 feet. On the short and easy #8 Pistol dunks his drive to give me a huge opening, but I blade my wedge approach over the green and we match our only bogeys. At the last after Pistol gets to 18 feet below the hillside hole, I hit shot of the day, an LW from 70 to 3 feet. Pistol's putt looks perfect but loses speed and just slides by, and I am able to hole center cut my twisty 3 footer for a win.

Mr. Bogey, your blow by blow recap of your battles with Pistol are one of the highlights of my browsing on this forum... It is always an interesting read. Thanks.

Re: What did you shoot today?

So my wife had a baby last week (our second) via c section...unfortunately the baby suffered a shock in the birthing process (can't translate the technical stuff...suffice to say it apparently happens to a small percentage of c section babies who are suprised to be ripped from their homes)...my daughter was in an incubator and on oxygen with tubes and wires all over her newborn body for a week...we were allowed to take her home yesterday as her vitals are normal now and there should be no further complications-THANK GOD!

Anyway, for the relevance to the thread...

I played as a form of therapy while she was in the hospital...only so long you can stare through the window of the ICU...my timeline was like this...

In incubator on direct oxygen and intravenous feeding...97
In incubator on indirect oxygen and bottle feeding...84
Removed from ICU and in nursery like a regular healthy baby...80
Home and in bed or on Mommy's food supply...77

She's doing well now; I still feel a little shaky, but just wait until I get the University bills with the girls only one year apart...

BigV, glad your baby is home and doing well... better start saving right now for college. I figure by the time they hit college age, it'll take a truckload of cash to get em through...

Glad everyone is doing fine Big! Looks like your scores dropped as the baby was starting to do better.

Don't worry about saving for college... they'll get financial aid or some form of aid or student loans when the time comes. Save for your own retirement, they don't give financial aid for that. At least that's how I look at it.
