Re: What did you shoot today?
90 on Saturday, played army golf all day, add in 15 mph wind factor didn't help either, but most of it was me.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Wished you lived closer, my friend, and we could take care of that. Maybe we can all get together here or there once a month for a guys outing. My wife looks for any chance to get me out of the shop for a day.

87. Just a very mediocre day all the way around. 33 putts with a nice birdie on the 6th hole was the bright side... otherwise...

Re: What did you shoot today?
Strange day today...
Shot an 85 which is pretty standard... What wasn't standard was that I was hitting some of the best drives on a consistent basis that I ever have...long and straight... I made 4 putts over 10 feet, 3 of which were over 15... I missed four putts inside of 4 feet... I got down in 2 from 80-100yd range 4 times... I thinned 4 from 80-100 yds over the green... I made a longish putt for birdie... I missed two putts of 3 and 4 feet for birdie... And that's just the start... Round started with beautiful blue skies which quickly started to darken, then the winds came...strong enough to break limbs off of trees...tropical gusts that must have been around 30mph or more...lastly, I had a little talk with myself after my concentration was shaken by playing through two groups that were on the obnoxious side (their invite to play through)...I roll up to the 14th all set to finish strong and there was a photo shoot going on in the greenside bunkers on 16...let me amend that to a bikini photo shoot going on in the bunker on 16...anyhow, that was the last straw and I am lucky I didn't take off a toe with the next shot... All in all quite entertaining today...

Re: What did you shoot today?
I finally got out for my first round of the season today. I shot a 91 on a par 70 and that included 6 pars. I drove it ok and had 28 putts, though I didn't sink anything over 6 feet and I used the putter at least another 7 times from off the green. I chipped well, too. Every full shot off the deck was an adventure, though. Left, right, fat , thin... just brutal. I hadn't swung a club since December. I'll hit a bucket or 2 of irons at the range before I try it again. My driving usually doesn't give me much trouble anyway, but the short game touch was a nice surprise.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Another awful round yesterday evening. Played the "twilight rate" after 3pm at a challenging course about 45 minutes from here. Unfortunately, a lot of other people had the same idea. My buddy and I got behind a foursome, of which 2 were obviously new players. Ahead of them was a foursome of 2 old men and 2 old women, ahead of them was a foursome of .... well, you get the picture. We were stacked up like cord wood. Ten minutes or more between shots was not uncommon. The wind was blowing about 5-10 mph, and as the evening progressed it got stronger. About an hour before dark, it was gusting a good 20+mph. We teed off at 3:25, and finished in the "almost completely dark" at 8:20. Almost 5 hours of torture! I shot 55-48 and my friend shot 50-51, which is about 10 strokes higher than average for me, and 15 for him.
The course is usally in good shape, but yesterday some of the greens looked like the moon. I probably averaged fixing 5 ball marks per green (besides my own), and my buddy did likewise. Putts over 10 feet that were made were rare and based on luck, as the ball looked like a pinball bouncing from bad spot to bad spot. We had more lip-outs than a classroom full of pouting 5 year-olds! I'll wait to play this course again after all the winter visitors have left and the course has had a few weeks to recover from the abuse.

Re: What did you shoot today?
No golf for 2 days now... yesterday no time and today it's cold and rainy... and we have a houseguest, and we have a plumbing emergency... But I'm looking forward to Monday... all depending on the plumber's schedule.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Shot an 83 today, and really have been struggling with short game for the past few weeks. Then again, I haven't been practicing. On the bright side, I played 15-18 in 2 under, and got up and down from about 25 yards on 18 for par.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played twice this weekend and although I wasn't overly pleased with how I hit the ball (keep leaving the face open a little and have developed a slight fade) I am okay with the scores being it's the first two rounds of the year after a couple month layoff. Shot 77 yesterday and 79 today.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Today I started out by making triple bogies on each of the first 2 holes, and hitting 7 different trees in the process. Then I started to play golf and held it together for an 87 total, with a 41 on the back nine (including just 13 putts, 5 straight 1 putt greens, 2 for birdies). All in all a strange day.

Re: What did you shoot today?
Practice on the course today...played three balls...safe, standard, and go for it...had fun and made some nice putts as well as dropping some of the "go for it" balls either on the par 5 greens in two or in the lake...
...came close to driving a green on a shortish par 4, would never try that in a real round...wound up parring it anyway, just like I did with the standard 7 iron / 9 iron to the green...telling...

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played a course about 20 minutes away that I have never played before today...par 72 beauty that apparently hosted the 1983 world championships (plastered all over the clubhouse)...goregous course!!! I have never played such a nice course in my life! Also never played such a hard course (133/73.3)... It had everything, doglegs, elevations, blind shots, tight fairways, immaculately groomed and what was to be my downfall today, the fastest greens bar none that I have ever played on...
Wind was high today, at least the same as the last day out, strong enough to knock coconuts and branches out of the palms...2-3 club difference either for or against depending on the wind direction... Shot a 92 which reflects two water balls on the first two holes and 9 (count 'em) nine 3 putts!!! I am not the greatest putter in the world, but I am better than that at home...these greens seemed like they were so fast that if you put a ball down it would run away...and not a one was anywhere near flat! That aside, I played some really good golf shots today and had a good handful of GIRs and fairways hit...one day everything will come together! ![]()

Re: What did you shoot today?
Played Sunday with the new driver (580XD) driving was great short game was ok, pulled my normal putter out of the bag to use and old TaylorMade mallet. Putting was ok on the front nine but kept noticing that when I was putting the putter had a funny sound and feel. Well made the turn and on 10 found out why the putter was making a weird sound the head came off,
spent the rest of the back nine putting with my TaylorMade rescue shot a 92 even with an unconventional putter. All in all it was a great day to be out on the course high temperature was 87°. ![]()

Re: What did you shoot today?
I went out for a quick 9 today. I shot a 14 over (50). 1 par on the 2nd hole which is a par 5. Putting was excellent. Anything within 10 feet seemed to be going in the hole. Hole 4 I sunk a 15 footer though... First 9 holes of golf of the year for me and they seemed to build my confidence. Course was really wet though.
I learned that I need to put down the driver at the range and start working on the short game. |
