Keeping black marks off my shorts after the round?

After every round I play wearing khaki colored shorts I end up with black marks on the outside of the shorts on my right front pocket area. I've came to the conclusion that this is because of tees, coins, and divot tool being in my pocket. This only happens to my right pocket and that's the pocket I keep my tees, coins and repair tool in.

Does anyone else get this too and know how to stop it from happening? It's really annoying when you have to wash shorts 5 times before all the black marks come out of them.

What does your right hand look like after the round? Could the grip be shedding some black 'dust'? If so, you need to find some khaki grips!

I noticed the same thing after my round yesterday. The black marks even had dimples from where I had a ball in my pocket.

Unless you wipe them off first - everything you're putting in your pocket has dirt on it. I wore white shorts when I played today so I made an effort to wipe everything on my towel before I put it in my pocket.

Completely clean. Definitely not the grip I don't think. I'm 99.9% certain it's the items in my pocket (which I clean off after I use them) so I don't know where the black marks are coming from still.

This may be the route I go from here on out, as bad as I hate to do it.

Same thing happens to me except on my left pocket. And I also have had to wash shorts several times before clean. What I do now is to keep a bottle of Lestoil near the washer with a small paint brush. A small dab rubbed in with the brush usually will get everything out in one washing. Lestoil is a great detergent that can be found in the laundry isle at the grocery. It was originally designed as a grease remover. Good Luck.

Ah, I'll definitely give that a try! Do you know if the Lestoil better for some fabrics over others or should it be fine to use on all clothing? Reason I ask is I just purchased some polyester Nike shorts and I definitely don't want to ruin them or anything.

Dear Deron,
I don't know about polyester. All my stuff is cotton. I don't have the big bucks for the really trick/good stuff. When I'm shopping, I'm always looking for the sale. I imagine the bottle instructions would know best. But believe me, the stuff is killer on cotton stains.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to not be lazy and just to the store and read the label

Well, I don't have the big bucks either, believe me. I get all my Nike golf stuff from the Nike Outlet in Myrtle Beach every year when we go. Shirts for 25 and Shorts for 30.

Where I've found that those black marks come from is from having something in your pocket, then rubbing against the steering wheel in the golf cart or even in your car as you get in and out. If I walk, I never get them, only when I ride.

Hey Deron! Please answer one question for me.........Do you ride or walk when these black marks appear?

My bet is ride. Want to know why?

Hmmm, with the mischief smiley, I'm not sure I want to know "why."

I think I actually know the reason why, but lets hear yours first.

I recently experienced the same problem you described in your first post and I figured out where the black marks were coming from. I knew my hands and golf balls weren't that dirty and it took me awhile to figure it out.

Next time you step out of the driver's seat of a golf cart note that your right front pants pocket often hits the bottom of the steering wheel. That's where the tough to remove black marks are coming from.

Yep, I believe you're 100% right! The other night I thought about this and it all made sense to me, I just forgot to revisit this thread and post my epiphany. I'll be sure watch out and not hit my leg on the wheel next round and see what happens. But yes, I think mystery solved!
