Decisions Decisions

My brother always buys me a new club for my birthday (which is Thursday BTW) so he called yesterday to see what I wanted. He suggested getting me a new driver. Mine is a Mizuno Tava 12* 330 - I think. I know I should get a 16*, but to be honest I'm afraid of those giant things. I know it would give me more distance off the tee though. My other option is a hybrid - I don't have one. Anyway, I can't decide. What do you think?

Re: Decisions Decisions

I guess the question is, do you hit your current driver well? If you do, then I probably wouldn't switch at this point. If you do want the extra yardage from one of the Big Bad new drivers, then I guess be prepared to re-learn how to hit a driver, because it is different with a 460 head.

Personally, I think you'd love having a hybrid in the bag. I say this because I just got my first one. I had never even hit one before, and purchased a Callaway X Hybrid online. It's an awesome tool to have at your disposal. Learning to hit a hybrid is SO much easier than trying to figure out a new driver.

So my answer...Go with they hybrid, and happy early birthday.

Re: Decisions Decisions

I think I would go with the hybrid. Put a hybrid 3 iron in my bag last year best equipment move I've made todate.

Re: Decisions Decisions

It depends on how well you hit your current driver Diane.

Have you ever hit a 460 cc driver? If a new driver gets you 20-30 more yards (possible), as well as more accuracy (also possible), you may not need that hybrid as much as you think.

Just a thought. Happy Birthday in advance. I like your subtle reference "which is Thursday by the way."

P.S. I would go with the hybrid, by the way.

Hybrid.

A new driver might help a little, but chances are good that a hybrid will help you with shots that you're not now hitting very well: long irons.

There'd also be nothing wrong with going old-school and getting a 5-wood, if you don't have one yet, or perhaps even a 7-wood.

So how many clubs do you have?

My next post needs to be a good one, so my apologies if I don't reply any time soon.

Re: Decisions Decisions

While a new driver is nice to have, it has basically one use and that's off the tee. A hybrid on the other hand is a very versatile club that can be used in numerous situations.

I totally agree with this observation. I sometimes have a 3wood, 5 wood, 7 wood, and an 11 wood in the bag. I've tried a few hybrids but haven't found the one that I like.

Re: Decisions Decisions

Based on all your previous posts, I would say that your brother should treat you to a CUTE OUTFIT because you say you play better when you know you look better. Also, a cute outfit would help every aspect of your game since you would be wearing it while you drove, hit irons, chipped and putted. Now that is a game improvement gift you just couldn't go wrong with!!!

Outfit isn't in my brother's vocabulary except when he's mocking the guy in his golf group who does wear coordinated outfits.

Well then, it might be very interesting to see what he picked out as a "coordinated outfit"... Of course you would have to wear it or hurt his feelings. This could be good.

Never happen - he's color blind.

You know, Jack Nicklaus is color blind.

It's said that in his prime, he was dressed by Hart, Schaffner and Barbara.

Re: Decisions Decisions

I had a buddy that was color blind. I could always tell when he and his wife were arguing, he would come to work in blue pants with brown socks and a tan shirt... She must have had a great laugh after she sent him out looking like that.

I might try and find a 5-wood to go along with my TM 200 Steel 3-wood just to have another option, but I'm very happy with my TM MidRescue 3. I hit it about 220 off the tee and it seems much easier to hit from the fairway than my 3 wood does, so I can't really imagine what I'd do with a 5-wood.

Get the hybrid. The driver won't change anything.

Happy Birthday! My step-dad's birthday is today, too. Mine is Sunday and my dad's is next Wednesday. Ahhh...good times...and good people.

Go with the hybrid unless you don't like your current driver.

I should have known you were a fellow Leo.

I'm getting the hybrid, but my brother thinks he knows best so he's choosing one.
