Re: 2nd shot Blues
I'm having the same problem with my irons. It just started last week. No s****s yet though. {knocks on wood}. I think I'm just going to have to break down and practice.

Re: 2nd shot Blues
For the past few weeks I have been striking the ball fairly well. But then today during a 2 man scramble, my iron game disappeared. This evening I went to practice and figure out was going on and I realized I wasn't making a full shoulder turn. One little thing can turn your swing around.

Re: 2nd shot Blues
For me today it was fairway woods that suddenly became strangers in my hands. You're right about "one little thing." I need to hit the range for confirmation, but I suspect the one little thing for me today was that poor posture had crept in without me realizing it.

Re: 2nd shot Blues
You guys have hit on my achilles heel. My irons are either full on or full off with no mediocre game in the middle. I started out this morning by hitting the first 3 greens in regulation smooth as silk. Then we caught up with a traffic jam and had to wait about 20 minutes in the fairway for the green to clear. My approach into that green missed by 10 yards left. We waited and waited and waited. Every time I hit an iron it was like starting all over again. I didn't hit another green on the front side. We finally got around them on the 11th but by then, my game was just gone. I played on in, but my heart wasn't in it. Without the ability to hit a quality iron shot, this game is way too hard.

Re: 2nd shot Blues
This is my current focus area when I practice...working hard on making the swing more simple and compact, more easy to repeat when tired or feeling out of it...it is working, slowly, but I'm definetely improving...lots of practice, and IMO this is usually the difference between a guy who shoots 85 and one who shoots 75...

Re: 2nd shot Blues
Everytime I feel that I've improved significantly on a certain aspect of my game, (in this instance driving) it only exposes how poor I am at all the other aspects!
Usually the rule is the better the tee shot - the worse the second shot. If I could learn to string 3 good shots together I'd be sorted. |

Re: 2nd shot Blues
I've had the fat, thin, chunky stuff crop up from time to time in my swing. I went and saw the pro and his comment for me was, when your timing is good your good, but when you timing is off your fating, thining and chunking the ball. My problem is my lower body starts to slide and move more than it should. His simple fix was for me to take my stance and ever so slightly pinch my knees together...sort of like holding a ball between you legs. Stops the leg movement and keeps me centered over the ball, forces me to rotate my hips to generate power instead of taking a baseball type swing that rocks back on the back foot and then explodes forward which in golf requires great timing. Just a thought and easy enough to test out on the range.
