Re: Cargo shorts - not acceptable course attire?

I think this is another one of those threads where some people confuse "elitist" with "tradiionalist". I prefer a more traditional look for golf. It's what I grew up with and what I like. I wear what I prefer and you may wear what you prefer. Will I judge you - yes, but not in the way you think. I'll just think - poor thing - he has no fashion sense.

I carry 4 or 5 tees, one extra ball, my scorecard, and pencil. I walk every time I play, and like having the scorecard and pencil right there where I can write down my score after I putt in on each hole.

I bought one of those fancy leather scorecard holders from USGA just for that purpose. I like using it because it holds the scorecard and pencil together. It also comes in handy for carrying a yardage book if the course has one available. Makes me look like the Pro I wish I were....

League, poor thing, obviously has less than no fashion sense. I don't think you need him here.

Re: Cargo shorts - not acceptable course attire?

I think my tasteful cargo shorts and my leather scorecard wallet go together just fine, thank you... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and when I behold myself in my cargo shorts holding my scorecard wallet, I think I look pretty darn cool...

C-Tech - Exactly how much time do you spend looking at yourself in the mirror?

I have them everywhere, all over my house... I only go shopping so I can see myself in the shop windows. I carry a compact in my golf bag just so I don't have to wait til the course restrooms to get another look... Yessiree, I am a real narcissist. In actuality, I normally look in the mirror when I shave and I prefer to do that only without my glasses so I don't have to see ALL the wrinkles. Other than that, not often.

I'm right here laughing my off at all you manly men being dissed by little Miss I'm wearing a cute outfit today and you're not.

I dress comfortably and appropriately outside my own home. I've been part of the polo and dockers crowd as well as the Hawaiian shirt guy and I do know there's a time and place for both. The key is knowing the right time and place.

I do draw the line at the hat on backwards thing though. It just looks stupid on anyone over 6 years old.

I'm not diss'ing cargo shorts, I'm just wondering what you all carry that makes them necessary. Like I said, I get by with three quarters, a handful of tees and a divot tool in my pockets (all two of them), so what's in yours?

(And please don't write, "my cell phone")

I don't buy them just for the golf course. I wear them everywhere all summer long. When I'm off the course one pocket is for my cell phone. I also occasionally toss something else in a pocket, like for instance a breakfast bar to be eaten later, or a pen and my grocery list, or whatever. I don't make a point of buying shorts with the extra pockets, but the places I've shopped lately all seem to carry nice shorts with that added functionality that is handy when needed. As I said above, I don't care if courses want to ban them, I just won't play those courses (unlikely to come up in any event). That's an easy choice for me.

And while you're worried about if cargo short guy's belt matches his wrist watch, cargo short guy will be lining up his birdie putt!

I would hope so. Dinner can't be late just because you are critiquing cargo short guy.

Another thing that got drilled into my head at a young age is that grown men don’t wear shorts in public unless playing sports or at the beach or resort type setting…having lived in five tropical countries and traveled to many more, it is a value that seems to be shared universally even here on the equator…not telling anyone how to dress, I’d be the last one to do that, but tropical cultures consider shorts gauche, tacky and callow… cargo shorts push that envelope…and as a side note, though many of you might not “care” what other people think, outside of the US in many parts of the world shorts on men in public spaces goes beyond cultural insensitivity and the amusement of watching the “ugly American” but actually can be offensive…

…or in CP’s case when he’s rockin’ the tight cutoffs, very offensive (again, thanks for that mental image CP)…

Just a heads up…
