Back Stretch Exercises

Does anyone have any good stretches that will help stretch lower back muscles. I sit at a desk for 9 hours a day, and I get really tight lower back muscles that extend down into my butt. Any suggestions would be great. My swing posture is affected because I can't keep a good spine angle through impact, so getting my back better is a priority.

Ringin - I just ordered a foam roller. Here's an article I found about foam rollers and golf.

Thanks Diane. I wonder if a simple piece of foam can really help. I'm willing to try just about anything, because I get pinched up so bad that some days I won't even swing a club. I'm 34 years old and I'm fallin apart.

Part of my problem is that I've had lousy posture since I was a kid. I'm 6'5" and it's always been a struggle for me to stand up straight all of the time. I'm sure that's part of my lower back issues. I'm going to check that roller out. Thanks.

Re: Back Stretch Exercises

I use one of those big exercise balls and lay back on it in full stretch...everything pops and then I feel good again...I also have a book with a bunch of gym class stretches, but the ball is the single best one of the bunch...

Re: Back Stretch Exercises

Hamstring stretches and lower back stretches. Here's a good series of stretches for the lower back. Back Stretching Exercises

Like you, I sit behind a desk or in a car for way too many hours daily. As someone who has suffered from intermittent back pain for the last 30 years, I rely on these to keep my back from acting up.

Like BigV, I like the exercise ball too, but it's better for my upper back than my lower back. It's saved countless dollars at the chiropractor's office.

You and me both, brother (I'm 6'3).

Hamstrings are important, I really try to keep them loose and that without question helps my back. There's a great stretch that I do, but it's impossible to describe, I'll have to see if I can find a picture of it.

Uno momento, por favor...

I know this one is good (and simple):

This one as well, which you can do from your seat

The one I can't find I got from Mark O'Meara's Playing Lessons With the Pros; it's also in Roger Fredericks' golf stretching program.
