Re: Top Flite D2

Was shocked that it was a Top Flite, my Callaway rep (Callaway owns Top Flite) brought a sleeve of each type over to my club and had me test them out on the first tee. The Top Flite distance is there, but the feel is much better. Actually backed one of the D2 Feel balls off a green.

Re: Top Flite D2

What's the Feel D2 like? They caught my eye today at Wally World... $16 for 15, not a bad price...

How do they compare to the older Top-Flite Infinity Buttery Feel balls?

Re: Top Flite D2

First time user yesterday. D2 Straight. Very impressed, particularly for the reasonable cost. I tend to play modestly priced balls, and have always liked the Nike Distance Soft line. D2 felt softer yet no less distance than the Nike. Taking into account occasional operator error, the "straight" designation seemed fairly appropriate as well. Birdie.

Re: Top Flite D2

I got a trial pack of two D2 Distance balls today. Seem to be working well off of the putter, and feel great. Can't wait to play a round with them. Will give them a final rating in the poll once I do.

Re: Top Flite D2

I've been a ProV1x man for about 3 years now, and not hit much of anything else. A friend caught me on the course on the 10th hole yesterday and suggested I try a D2 Feel that he gave me and I was just stunned at how long it was, and how soft it was. Iron shots into the green just stopped dead in their tracks, a couple backed up. 3/4 to full wedges were great, and little pitches were nice, even though didn't stop quite as quickly as my "x". Length...just as long as my "x", maybe longer. I was impressed enough that I went and bought a box today to give a further try.

Re: Top Flite D2

I almost gave it an Eagle rating I like them so much, but I went with birdie instead. I was playing Callaway HX Tour (and Tour 56) balls, but I think I'm going to start playing these balls now. I played the D2 Feels and I loved them! And at $15 for 15 balls, I won't have to worry about losing one (which is a problem for me). Plus, I was making putts from all over the place with these balls. I only had 29 putts yesterday! Usually if I have 29 putts it's because I'm real close to the green, but not quite on so I can get up and down easily and it only counts as one putt. I made AT LEAST 3 putts from 10+ feet yesterday (if not 15+). I typically have a problem with leaving my putts short. I was also using the Srixon AD-333 ball and found myself leaving it short like I always seem to do. Maybe it was luck, but these balls convinced me yesterday based on their performance that I can trust these balls in my bag.

Re: Top Flite D2

I played 9 with them for the first time yesterday. They definately produce more sidespin than my Bridgestone E6, that was extremely apparent with the state of my drives yesterday. That is more a mechanics problem than a ball issue though. (Maybe I will try the straight version). I don't think it was just you when it comes to putting...these balls put very nice. I liked them with my wedges too, all in all very nice around the greens. They felt really nice off of the irons as well...didn't really see to much of a difference in distance.

I will definately play this ball more often, I was playing the Feel version, but like I said I think I am going to try the Straight version next time to try and reduce my sidespin.

5 stars for this ball @ $15 for 15 balls.

Re: Top Flite D2

It's a 2-piece in the mold of a DT SoLo or a Noodle. Very low compression, which gives it the soft feeling not usual for T-Flites. But I only was able to hit two drives with it (I received one of the two pack giveaways) as both of them spun into the high stuff on the right. The only two OBs I had that day. Hard to believe I made my only two bad swings on that ball, but I guess it could happen. Anyway, I'll stick to my NXTs for now.

Re: Top Flite D2

I'm hesitant to try them, because I'd want the "straighter" ball, and Top Flite's solution for that is their "slickcote" cover, which I didn't like in any of their previous line of balls. It felt like someone had sprayed WD-40 on the ball, and chipping and putting with them was awful. So if any of you have tried the D2 Straight version and found them just as playable as the Feel, let me know and I might gamble on a sleeve.

Re: Top Flite D2

I just saw the quotes on the D2. Today I played 18 holes. I used the Feel for most of the round. Very good off the tee, wedges and putter were surprisingly well controlled. However, I abandoned it halfway through the back nine. I thought it was the arrow and not the indian. Somehow on the back nine I was using the D2 straight. It all of a sudden sounded different and I lost control of my chipping. It was after the round was over that I realized I was playing with a straight. It was the only one in the sleeved of Feels.

Re: Top Flite D2

On Wednesday I purchased 2 15 packs of the D2 Feel at Target for under 11 bucks. I took them out for a spin yesterday. I really llike these balls for the money. I play a wide range of balls and don't really have a ball of choice, but this ball performs very well in all aspects of the game.

Driving distance: Just as good as any other ball that I've hit this year.

Spin: Very good spin, not like a Prov-1 but for the price difference I would settle for the D2 feel. Good spin from my 7iron down.

Around the green: Of course not as much spin as a Prov-1, but it has very nice feel and more spin than you would expect.

Putting: It has a very good feel of the putter face as well. My favorite ball to putt is the Prov-1, but this is probably second.

Durability: I did notice one little scuff after I hit a 8 iron into a short par 3, the ball backed up.

I think Topflight, or maybe Callaway, has finally done something right.

Re: Top Flite D2

You got two packs for $11 total, or $11 each? Two 15-packs for $11 is a steal with any kind of new golf ball! Even $11/pack ain't bad - might have to go to Target and see what they have!

$10 + change per pack. They were on a clearance rack. I bought the last 2 packs they had.

Thanks for the clarification! That was a good buy for you! I think I saw them at Wal-Mart for around $14.99/pack, which still isn't bad if they play as well as some folks are saying.

Re: Top Flite D2

I went ahead and bought a 15-pack just to see what the hype is all about. Also bought me some more Bridgestone e6s in case it gets ugly with the TopFlites!

Y'all can have all the Top Flite D2s you want, I'll never tee another one up!

I started out my round today using these (D2 Feels), and my first drive was struck well and straight, but only went about 230 yards into the wind. I thought maybe I just wasn't warmed up well enough, and maybe the wind was stronger than I thought. Second shot, with 3wood, barely went 190 yards. Again, maybe the wind? Felt good off the club. It did chip and putt ok, as far as I could tell on the aerated and sanded greens.

Next hole, 210 yards to clear the marshy area. Smacked it well, but couldn't see where it landed or if it got any roll. Come around and there is sits, about 5 yards past the edge of the marsh.

Now folks, I usually hit 260-270 yard drives, even known to crank a 300 once in a while. Something was wrong. Played out that hole, a par 5, each full shot quite a bit shorter than usual. Once inside 100 yards, the D2 was great.

Par 3, 176 yards, wind at my back now. Take a full swing with a 7 iron and leave it short of the green by 10 yards! Normally with that wind I'd be worried about flying the green with a 7 iron.

Next hole, I'd had enough, so I take out a Birdgestone e6. Hit it nice and straight, maybe a slight fade with wind going that way. I was inside the 100 yard marker on a 370 yard par 4. I took the D2 ball out of my pocket, took the sleeve I had sitting in the cart, and zipped them away in my bag. Played the rest of the round with the e6s, returning to distances I was familiar with. So much for giving Top Flite another chance!

Re: Top Flite D2

That's funny, because I thought the same thing with the e6. I've never tried the e6 and found what looked like a brand new one on the course. I played with it for about 3 holes and dropped into the shagball basket.

I've never judged a ball for my continued usage based on what happens with a "found" ball, as I don't know what that ball has been through. If one looks like it's in good shape, I may use it, and if it performs well FOR ME (after all, this is all personal opinion!) I may then be enticed to buy some new ones and try them. That's how I first tried the e6 - found a new looking one and liked the way it felt off the tee.

Last week I was looking for my ball in some bushes, and found a TaylorMade - first one I'd ever even seen in person! I tried it out a few holes later, and it was AWFUL! Felt like a rock off the driver and dead off the irons. I couldn't believe that TaylorMade would make a ball that poorly, so I chalked it up to the ball being in poor shape from being exposed to the elements too long, or some other unknown cause. If I had a chance to play a new one again, I'd try it.

I've just decided that if I want to get better and play more consistently, I need to use the same type of balls on a regular basis. Using a different kind of ball is almost like using a different set of clubs each time - they may work, but you won't get the most out of them if you aren't used to them.

Re: Top Flite D2

I love these. I played my best round ever with these in use. They felt good off of every club. My drives were straighter than ever before which is pretty unusual for me. It spun really good around the greens, I was using the D2 Feel. I didn't three putt one time for 18 holes. All my approach shots were within 10 feet of the flag. I will be playing these for quite some time.
