Wilson 50/50

I got the 2 ball trial pack in the mail and tried them on the course yesterday and was consistently 15-25 yards shorter than with any other ball I've played. I lost them both on the 14th hole and on the 15th hole I pulled out a Srixon Soft Feel and my drives went back to normal distances. I was thoroughly UNimpressed by these balls and will not be buying any in the future, no matter how cheap they get. They just did not work well for me.

This ball is soft. It did nicely around the greens, and felt really good off the putter face. If you are looking for a soft ball, this is it.

Have to agree with Texas Wedge - this ball was a par at best. The huge dimples really make it look weird (if that counts for anything). Ball was shorter off of the tee than anything I can remember hitting. It is soft, but the cover isn't soft enough to spin it alot.

I like the feel around the greens but still not sure off the tee yet. The end of last season I've was switching back and forth between these and the D2 Feel.

I wouldn't know, I never received the free sleeve I signed up for on their website last year.

Re: Wilson 50/50

These balls are just to soft for me,was losing distance off the tee. They were nice of the putter though but a 'par' rating at best.

I played the Wilson Zip for two rounds this week. Supposedly softer than the fifty, but I am pretty sure it has the same dimple pattern. Huge flat dimples, with very shallow ridges between them. With the sun on them you can see sparkling reflections from a new ball as if it is a diamond! The putting feel is lovely, but the ball did not seem to want to settle down on relatively steeply inclined portions of the green, presumably because of the lack of protruding ridges. It seems very unstable in its lie on an inclined green. On several occassions the ball seemed to roll back when I was fully expecting it to come to a stop, and on another occasion the ball suddenly moved when I was about to putt it.

Re: Wilson 50/50

I've heard that anyone with average or higher swing speeds (for men Ithink that's about 80mph +) will lose distance with these really low compression balls. I played with a gentleman in his late 70s who couldn't hit his usual Titleists over 170 yards off the tee, but when he tried the 50/50s, he was gaining 20-30 yards. Really made him a proponent of the ball, and he tried to get all his elderly friends to switch. But several of them, including my business partner who is 74, can still swing pretty good, and the Wilsons just didn't help them at all. Definitely a "niche" ball that may help a few players, but not for everyone.

Hmmm...Maybe I'll have my dad try some and see if it helps him. Thanks for the swing speed theory, GS!!
