Re: Infiniti Assure's
Well, for what it's worth, I can finally give a review on Assures.
Christian provided me with a 7 iron to demo, shafted with a Dynamic Gold S300 steel shaft and Golf Pride grip.
I hit about a dozen range balls, and played a round at a local public course using the club whenever possible, from various lies and for shots ranging from full swings to chip and runs.
For comparison sake, I have been using a set of Golfsmith Pro Forged blades with UST HTD 95X graphite shafts, 3/4" over standard length. So using a standard length game-improvement cavity back took a little adjustment. But within a half dozen shots I was hitting it pretty well on the range.
This club definitely gets the ball into the air! The low CG and wide sole also make them as forgiving as any clubs I've tried before. My usual 7 iron distance is 160-170 yards, medium trajectory. The shorter club and higher trajectory took a little distance from what I'm used to getting from a 7 iron, but accuracy was great. Nice and straight, even most mishits, and I still got 150-155 yards from a full shot with a high trajectory reminiscent of what I get from my 9 iron or PW. Pretty good spin, too, without trying too hard to impart anything extra.
I like to use my 7 iron around the green for bump and run shots, but found I got a little too much "pop" under the ball and not as much run out with the Assure 7 iron as I'm used to. Nothing I couldn't aadjust to, but I'm not going to rework my game to fit a demo club! `However, I think the wide sole would help a lot golfers avoid some of the "chili dips" and other mishits when using this club for finesse shots.
These irons are definitely worth checking out if you're a mid-high handicap struggling with getting the ball aloft with good spin, or needing a little extra forgiveness. Properly fitted by a qualified club builder, I can't imagine there's a better game-improvement iron out there.
