Ben Hogan Apex Edge

Although this club is under the guise of Callaway and now made in China, I still wanted to add this club to the list.

I personally like hitting this club. The chrome finish is amazing. It isn't wide like the rest of the newer game improvement clubs on the market.

Most irons are made in China - including Callaway. PING (S58 and S59) I believe are the only major OEM irons to me made the USA.

I have the Edge Pro irons and really love them. Not too bulky and very nice looking. Great feel and somewhat forgiving.

For 29.95 you can pick up an Apex II 4-iron at www.ironfinder.com or keep checking ebay.

.
Mine were from Texas before Callaway sent them away.

Despair.com couldn't have phrased it any better:

"Discovery:
A company that will go to the ends of the earth for its people will find it can hire them for about 10% of the cost of Americans".

Re: Ben Hogan Apex Edge

I recently got some old Apex PC irons 3-E, from the mid 80's. for cheap. Had Apex 4 steel but since they hit well despite being heavy for old Spoon, I am going to reshaft with some light graphite and try them out. Amazing how the ball flies off a true blade if I put a good swing on it. Might enjoy these! Love my i3 Ping blades, but these are the old classic blade forgings from the Texas Foundry. Cool clubs!

Re: Ben Hogan Apex Edge

Though Callaway has taken over, it's my understanding that they are still attacking the product line from a player's standpoint. The Apex blades are by far the most beautiful irons I have ever laid eyes on.

Let's face it, Hogan was never cornering the market at any point in time of the company's history, which probably made Hogan himself happy. I mean, you're talking about the type of man who I'm wiling to guess didn't want his clubs in the hands of a hacker at any cost. If I see a set of Hogans in anybody's bag, at the very least I assume they are knowledgeable, even if they can't play a lick.

FWIW, I heard at the local golf shop that the Hogan line for 2008 will be some fine clubs. I play my old PC's a lot and since reshafting with graphite, similar to my i3's,.. it has been fun to use both sets. I get good workable ballflight from both sets.

Or that they bought the cheapest set of clubs available at Golfsmith.

Haha, doesn't matter how old you are, I'm 30, and a couple of years back, I had the pleasure of owning a set of Apex Plus myself, in left handed. Had to pass them on though - they were too heavy for me as well. But, those were the best feeling clubs I have ever hit. Maybe it was because it was my first time hitting forged irons, but my swing was decent and it took me 3 attempts to hit my 1 iron...some shots you never forget, but those are usually on the course, this one was on the driving range. Such a pure shot, I had to stay with forged after that, so I now have the Nike Pro Combo - a lot lighter than the Aphex Plus, and they don't feel as smooth, but they're perfect for my swing.

Re: Ben Hogan Apex Edge

I'm playing a "mixed" set now. Using my 8&9 from the old blade set, and the rest from my 5 yr old Apex set. Also had the 2 iron blade regriped, and use that for 200-210 yd shots. If I flush it, I can get about 230 The only thing I see is that you have to hit these blades in towards the hosel, or it will fade/slice off big time. Even the 8&9 will push hard. You can fell them "twist" in your hand. We will see as it gets colder how they really feel
