Elbows

I've been doing a lot of research in this offseason in search of more power and distance. I've came across this article: Right Arm Unhinges For Power In Downswing | Power Golf Tips

When do your elbows unhinge? I know mine unhinge late, just wondering if this is a major power leak. Any thoughts?

Re: Elbows

I never really thought about it. I sort of makes sense. Like you GA, I'm looking for a few extra yards off the tee. I'll have to consider this the next time I swing a club. Hopefully it doesn't turn into one of those "do you inhale or exhale on your backswing? " swing thoughts.

Re: Elbows

I tried what you were talking about...for me it was like the inhale/exhale thing; not something that I could actively control...

Great...more swing thoughts. OK, which one are you supposed to do? I never thought about it before.

Try not to ever think of it again. Just smack yourself in the head with something to get rid of it if you have to. That's just a "classic" gamesmanship line to use to mess with your opponent.

The on plane golf swing is simply a tightly connected backswing keeping your hands over your shoe line. Keep your hands in tight and make your movement compact. When you get your hands behind you, lift your arms and set your wrists. Then roll your arms to aim the butt of the club at the target line (the ball). Then swing. Swing within your feet, no sway outside over either foot.

Simple Duh. Do it over and over again and shoot par. Watch several touring pros rehearse their similar backswing, Weir, etc.

Larry

Re: Elbows

Hey Larry. When you post vids if you take the K-XG7tfYVQM part, highlight it, and hit youtube it leaves the comments off of the vid.

So what? Just setup with your hands in close, turn keeping your hands over your shoes, when you get your hands behind you lift your arms and set your wrists. Then roll your arms and downswing. Unless you do something stupid, you will bring the clubhead from inside and you will accelerate through. That happens because your body will recognize that correct top position and automatically start your downswing with weight shift. Duh. That's it. Do it.

How does that have anything at all to do with elbows?

The swing in that video looked to have two, maybe three, planes in it. To me, it just does not look like a swing worth emulating. Readers Beware: This is the Internet.

Maybe we're on to something here. The runway swing.

Tightly connected...rehearsal like the tour pros...

...is there another video or was this the only one!?!?!?

...the only pro that swing reminds me of is this one...

We can rock out side by side for comparison...

...this somehow strikes a chord...blah blah blah and all that...

Re: Elbows

Well, this time at least Larry's post didn't say ALL pros do this, or we MUST do this, etc..
