Help with a camcorder

A friend of mine is gettting a camcorder. He is using it for his child and we plan to film our swings with it.

He says he can only find one with 1/2000 shutter speed. When I used to teach we used 1/10,000 and anything less was no good.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Help with a camcorder

I've done a lot of Videotaping of my son and tried to do slow-motion view, etc...even have the David Leadbetter Video Analysis Software that comes with his 5 DVD set. I have a top of the line Sony Handicam, cost me $1200 when it first came out a few years ago....but yea, at 1/2000 shutter speed, you don't get the small increments of motion....you might get the club before hitting the ball, perhaps a blur, and then 1 ft past the ball after the ball strike. You do need it at 1/10,000 for stopping fast action movement like a golf swing.

I don't know how you can say 'you can't find one' as I just did a google seach using the terms "1/10000 sec shutter speed digital camcorder" and you'll find a bunch. Look at the specs....everything from $ 1,000 home camcorders to $3,500 semi-professional ones. Wow, can't believe how many models are now going to 1/10,000 sec . Like everything else techno, as soon as you buy something, you find something out there that's better :-(

I actually haven't looked. He said the only one he could find was in the $3000 range.

I appreciate the help about the shutter speed. I thought that would be the quality you would get with 1/2000.

I have the Leadbetter Interactive as well. Great dvds!!

Re: Help with a camcorder

He found one with 1/8,000 for a pretty reasonable price. I asssume it would be pretty good?
