If you want to seriously lose your game, then a lesson is the fastest route.

If you want to improve your game , then lessons are the only route. I do play with single figure golfers who claim never to have had a lesson , and seeing them swing I believe them. But when you are digesting a change ,it really can louse up your swing.

On Thursday night, I hada lesson where we concentrated on the position at the top of my backswing. Having always faded and had a bad shot that goes way past a fade, I have recently developed the hooded hook going 50 yards in the opposite direction. It is a real card wrecker. Now I have one bad shot that goes 50 yards right of my normal bad shot. Where do I aim?

So we worked on the position at the top of my swing , making sure that the club was pointing at the target, horizontal ,with the wrist in a flat position. After ten minutes , it had worked like a charm, subtle draws from the sweet spot, then I changed up to a five wood and driver, and it still worked. Went to the range after work yesterday ,hit 50 balls, still wotking like a charm.

Off a nine handicap, I failed to break 90 this morning, spraying it to all parts, going OB and after a solid runs of bogeys, managed to three putt a couple of doubles.

I was spitting feathers by the last ,when I drove OB to round off a happy morning.

The guy at the range will be earning well from me over the next month, because I HAVE TO MAKE THIS WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry about it. They say that to engrain a swing change and turn it into a muscle memory action that you need to hit something like 1500-2000 shots for it to become permanent. The pro's struggle too when they decide to rebuild their swings. Just keep working at it and eventually the changes will become second nature. I applaud you for making the sacrafice.

If that was the case, then Tigers swing changes should have lasted about a couple of days.

Sometimes concentrating on achieving that position at the top--or too much of anything else--can cause a fellow to lose the "relaxation" or "softness" in his hands and forearms so necessary to play well.
