Re: How can I get more clubhead speed and still swing smooth?

I read in your introduction post that you already do swing smoothly, which is the only sound way to get good clubhead speed. Keep that up! And wellcome to GRT!

In fact, because you do swing smoothly, it makes your question very hard to answer! Why do you think you are lacking in clubhead speed? Small stature? Not physically strong? Improper technique / Swing-flaw? Have you had a pro take a look at it? Or can you post a swing-video?

Are you starting to decelerate about midway through you down swing? I always told I had a real smooth but would start to decelerate about half way through the down swing. Had a friend watch me one day on the course he was the one that pointed this out to me. You may want to get a friend to just watch one day when you are out golfing but wait until you’re through playing and discuss what he found, that’s the way my friend and I did and I got some good feed back.

Tempo, buddy. Work on the tempo some more. From what I've heard it sounds like your on the right track! Keep it up!

More lag, keep the wrists cocked longer into the downswing and then snap them through at impact. If you can find a slow motion video of Ernie's driver swing, you will see what I mean, he keeps his wrists cocked almost to impact and then fires them through to have the clubhead fire through impact.

Heres my input.

Find out your details at impact (clubhead speed etc) then try out different shafts to see if there is any difference. You may find a bit of extra impact speed with a different shaft.

Well the question is, what's your clubhead speed now? I've found a weighted club like the momentus helps increase clubhead speed and tempo.
