My Driver Swing Video

Hello all,

Thought I'd move over to the too and post a new swing, just took it about an hour ago. I'm working on not taking the club back so far, but looking at my videos myself I don't think I'm succeeding. I'm also still changing the angle of my back a bit too. The thing I really don't like is at impact it looks like my back is completely hunched over.

In terms of ball flight today I was hitting it either straight, a slight fade, or a big hook, the second video I hit a big pull hook. Also, average swing speed approximately 125-127mph.

Thanks for any input!!

Re: My Driver Swing Video

On the second video looks like the major problem is that you fell off balance so if you keep your balance you should pick up some more consistancy. Sorry I'm not much help with the technical swing but I'm sure some one on here will add their thoughts that will be much better than what I could give you.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

So far I have just watched the first one....It looks as if you are a good player! The top of the backswing kinda looks like a little hitch/rock back, and you get a little past parellel....Looks pretty good though!

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Thanks, I'm thinking that the vast majority of my balance issues can be attributed to the fact that my back is still drastically changing angles. Does anyone have any drills for this or do I just really need to take some time with a mirror?

OHH Ok...I saw the 2nd one and I think you get a little outside, and then you get laid off and long after that......on the takeaway that is!

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Cool, thought so, I'll have to get used to people's new names on the new site here.

So yeah, I think the swing is in pretty good shap right now, though there's a few things I need to work on; Stopping the club at parallel, keeping approximately the same back angle throughout the swing. I think that's basically it, I looked carefully last time at my club face and it appears to be square throughout.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

in that second video, and in both, i think your setup way too far right, so you either a) get stuck on the backswing causing your fade, or b) you flip the club and get that pull hook, the good swings you put on it your probably aimed straighter to the target, thats all i'd work on, swing looks good

Re: My Driver Swing Video

your spine angle looks fine, what i see that could be improved is the take a way, as Nike said. your arms are disconnected from the chest right at the start and don't connect again until you are at the top. do the towel drill that Vj Singh does alot. not only will this keep you on plane better, but it will shorten the swing also. i also see, imo, the wrist cocking too early, let the momentum of the swing cock them for you, it will do it all on it's own.

remenber three things, a one piece take a way (arms and club together), keep the arms connected to the chest, and passive wrists.

To help you do this, practice hooding the club on the takeaway. Don't let your wrists break until the club gets back a little ways instead of cocking them back right from the start.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

You're doing a considerably better job at keeping your spin angle and your head in a better position. The second swing, it looks like your head rises slight, then dips down. Hard to tell by how much from that angle. Much better than from before.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Yeah, next time I take video I'm going to make sure I have it absolutely down the line.

Thank you though, I have noticed that when I concentrate on keeping a better spine angle I shoot much better (imagine that). Shot 79 (best round ever for me) last weekend with my swingthought being maintaining the spine angle.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

I agree with what most of the others are saying. Watch your takeaway and your right elbow at the top of the swing. Push the club back with your left hand and try the towel drill that someone else suggested. Then on the downswing, try not to dip your body so much by driving so hard with your hips/legs. This is what causes the C-shaped spine and difficulty maintaining balance on some shots. Although this produces tremendous power, it makes timing much more difficult. This in turn results in less consistency. Pull the club back down with your left hand and keep your lower body under control. Hope this helps.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

You must find a way to get the club pointing towards the target much earlier in your backswing than you do now, and then stop the backswing when you do. Right now you start pointing the club to the target as an after-thought to the backswing (very obvious when you slow down the video). You want to get the club to the right position and direction in one smooth motion. A couple of lessons to fix the backswing might be money well spent: The rest of the swing is definitely worth it: It looks like an easy fixer!

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Same as whats already said about your takeaway. Work on the towel drill keeping connected. When your hands reach shoulder high, the butt of your club points about 6ft outside of the ball. Ideally it should be pointing at the ball or just inside.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Thanks again for all the advise everyone, I'll definitely work on being more connected in the backswing, I think that'll help me tremendously. Now here's a question though, at what point do you become too connected?

Re: My Driver Swing Video

It;s looks like you hesitate in your backswing..you go a little rocky like Nike said. I think your balance issues come from your stance..That is unique, I've never anyone stand like that..

Re: My Driver Swing Video

oh, I think the stance issues you're talking about are because of the position of the camera. Or are you talking about something else? It does look like I am standing incredibly closed, but I'm not, I'm completely square (in this video at least). I'll have to more carefully place the camera next time.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

I'm a beginner so I wont offer much, but it definitely looks like the first movement on the second video takes the driver head outside the line, meaning your entire swing has to compensate.

Re: My Driver Swing Video

So the strangest thing happened. I thought that if I shortened my backswing up that I would end up losing swing speed and yardage. As it turns out though I've gained some. With that really long swing and the club going way past parallel my driver swing speed is 125mph, with the shorter swing and the club stopping at parallel, new swing speed is 127mph. This game is definitely strange...

Re: My Driver Swing Video

Well it is more distance to travel. If your coming back and down quick yout swing speed will be definitely more because your rushing the ball to impact. By having a longer swing you may have less swing speed but its likely you will have more accuracy. I find when I don't go fully back, or load as I call it, I get to quick and my hands get stuck behind me. It used to be the opposite where my body wouldn't be slow enough for my hands but I with lessons I have slowed down my hands so as to not miss the ball to the left.
